"Double Fine Productions... were in the news again for slaying a particularly huge and ugly monster, and bunch of lawyers, who tried to keep Tim from launching this game." - EA VP of European publishing, Jens Uwe Intat

Thoughts?

Former monster calls current monster a monster. Yup, gaming is serious buisness.

ACTIVISION replaced EA as the Monster Evil Corp this gen...We all saw it coming with yearly Tony Hawk games, but when ACTI bought GH, and so far this year we have around 5-6 GH games, we know ACTI is in the supersaturation market.

It's funny to see EA dislike them for this, but they used to be just as bad.

Indeed but in EA's defense it would seem that something has changed in regards to their philosophies. At least they're trying a bit.

If I was EA, I would be taking that up and running with it as well. For years EA was the huge, ugly monster, now that the namecalling is starting to shift to someone else they should be embracing that to keep it off of them:P

Out of curiosity, why isn't EA considered a monster anymore? Is it because Acti is outdoing them or is it because EA has calmed down over the years? I always disliked this yearly games by EA, specifically there sports franchises, but then again all sports games are like that. I always hated EA after they bought out the NFL. They used money instead of trying to outperform the better NFL 2K series.

Partly because Activision is far outdoing them, and because EA has done a good job of publishing new types of games lately.. Mirrors Edge, The Old Republic, EA Active (They beat Nintendo at their own Casual fitness game:P), etc.

Its because EA has actually been putting out good games. They greatly improved NHL 09, seems to be actually trying now, new IPS such as Dead Space and Dante's Inferno etc.

Activision is just outdoing them. EA hasn't changed, they just can't compare to Activision.

Link? But if true, +1 EA. Sure, they used to be pretty bad, but now they pick up all these great IPs, support games with free new content, and release thinly priced, but very fun games like Battlefield 1943. Activision just sucks the big one now, everybody should have the right to call them out.

I disagree. EA is releasing lots of great new IPs, like Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, and saving lost IPs (lost from Acty BTW) such as Brutal Legend. They also release TONS of free content for Burnout Paradise and they released a super addictive multiplayer game, Battlefield 1943, for only $15. The only problem is all these yearly sports games, but with NHL09 I really can't complain too much.

Yes, Activision is just that. You can call EA hypocrites but that doesn't change what Activisision has become. Besides EA has improved greatly bringing new high quality IPs on the market as well as upping the quality of their old franchises.

EA changed a lot. I was not a big fan of them but there "City-State" method is really working. Basically having a bunch of developers being funded and publish by EA while being allowed a good amount of atonomy. Even EA Sports acts fairly indepedently from the rest of EA especially after hirering Peter Moore. Activition however, makes not bones about it, they only want to publish games they publish yearly. This was their rational behind dump Ghostbusters, and Brutal Legend.

True but EA also noticed are general disgust for them and took corrective action. While Activision decide to give its fanbase the finger and continue to milk its cash cows. Saying "we no you hate us but your going to buy it anyways".

The quality of high profile games that EA brings has vastly improved on all fronts recently. Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I've seen of your posts you are only interested in games from Japan. It's not surpising you'd disagree with such a universally accepted statement. If you don't mind I'd like to know what EA published and developed games you've played in the last 2 years to actually disagree with something like this.

I'm only stating that it's opinionated, personally no EA game I've played was entertaining.. Such as Battlefeild 1, Deadspace, Mirror's Edge, Rock Band, Need for Speed, The Sims 2, Burnout, a few Metal of Honor games.

I was actually going to ask if you saw this in that Ratchet thread, but thought better of it. :)

My apologies. Wasn't exactly fair to say that, but you do get what I was trying to say?At least fromwhat I see yourpreferences must make it difficult to give EA games a fair shake. They've taken a couplestumbles with Mirror's Edge and Army of 2and obviously theirWii shovelware is something I choose to ignorebut I was really intrigued how it's possible to deny the forward steps they've taken since 2007.
