Well, for years gamers have been buying DLC by the truckload.

Can't blame them for charging for yet another bit of DLC no matter how small.
That blame is on the gamers.

Remember that patch a little while back before Onslaught's release that was over 200MB? You don't think that was all for uber-high res images of the soldiers that you see during loadout, did you?

Sigh, people depress me. :?

If only we could convince every console gamer on Gamespot to not buy DLC. It would probably still sell by the boatload

If people will buy it and they will, do you blame them?

Wasn't it Blizzard who were selling digital horses for like £20? and how many people bought it, thousands!

Its good business, and games are a business like it or not.

That's what the patch did. It included assets for Onslaught, which are unlocked with the downloaded key.

Also, they have the right to try and kill used sales. They should be paid for every copy of the game sold, and if that means adding in incentives for people that buy new copies, whether that be a weapon pack, online play, or special access, they have the right to do that. That's something that they should've implemented years ago.

Why should they be paid for used sales? If they can't release a product with replay value then they don't deserve those sales.

You are joking right?

Activision is charging $15 for map packs of OLD and new maps. Dice map packs are FREE. It's an optional DLC you don't have to buy it. Get over yourself.

And for all I care the used game market can go to hell. Gamestop sucks.

Are there new maps/sounds/graphics that would make it more than 1mb? If not then your paying for 1mb of code which is a hefty amount of code.

Its not about replay value, its about the next person buying it, Its not like buying a used car where a used car has wear and tear, used games don't have that wear and tear, the only thing seperating them from a new copy is a sticker on the box. Used copies shouldn't have everything that the new person bought, or used copies should sell for the same amount and dev's should still get money.

Yes, and every LBP DLC is a couple of kbs, the game mode was added through a free patch, it's not on the disc, there's absolutely no difference in downloading a 100mb DLC and downloading a 99mb patch and a 1mb DLC

Dice Maps are free because there not even "map packs" its revamping of existing maps with Artillery zones.

Mass Effect 3 will be the last EA game I buy, good riddance to their practices.

For instance me and my gf love Mass Effect, she applied the single use code for the Cerberus Network, but it doesn't apply to my profile even though its the same damn console. So I need to start a new game of Mass Effect on her profile, to transfer a character to Mass Effect 2 and receive the Cerberus Network items. This condition was not laid out clearly to me and might as well be illegal IMO.

buying books is alot cheaper, and they don't exactly circulate as fast, and the pages can get messier faster. But writers don't spend millions writing a book so I really don't care tbh.

I don't know any :P But seriously its even worse if a PC gamer buys the DLC, because it is telling devs that its OK to charge for something that has always been free to the platform. Another thing is DLC usually means that the devs have either crippled or removed any modding capability of the game, which is a pretty huge freaking deal.

the day 1 DLC is actually unlocking the stuff through the game store, If you actually leave the game you can still purchase the stuff. Which kind of implies you don't own it, its just activated on account that used it, I noticed I could download bf 2142 through bfbc2 vip status as a full game, if i return to the dashboard it says i don't own it. I haven't tried starting it up though... Try calling ea see if they'll give you another, its not entirely unreasonable.

i could've sworn that we actually downloaded it with that huge update that came out on the same day as onslaught did. if so, we were forced to dl something that we still had to buy that is just a stupid copy of horde, firefight, nazi zombies, and the other 500 games that did it first.

Did you go to college? Textbooks are a lot more expensive than video games. And games can get scratched over time. Writer's don't spend as much money writing a book but they definitely spend more time.

Wasn't there a 300-400MB update a week prior to launch? I think that put it on the disc and paying the 10$ was an unlock for it. That way when it was released, you could just hop right on and play rather than waiting a few minutes to download it all at once

Wow, that DLC is severly jam-packed with a truckload of content! It's mindblowing! One can only imagine how much content lies within such a huge filesize at such a dirt cheap price as well!! One can only imagine how long it will take a person to download such a massive DLC add-on!!

EA is also charging "Online Pass" for 10 bucks, me and two other brothers share my PS3 and like to game on our own accounts. This essentially forces us to either fork over 20 bucks so we all can game on our own account online OR share one account for Madden 11 this year ...

The must utter lame, piece of **** I've experienced this gen.

eh look at the size of those patches leading up to onslaughts release both were tailing the 300-400mb mark most likely it was added in those patches but the part in the store merely unlocks the portion.

Trying to find controversy in something you didnt look at or think through is priceless...

atleast read the thread, a patch was released that included the onslaught mode you just needed to buy the key the stuff wasn't included on disc or nothing.
