"EA are planning substantial changes to the Dead Space series, with an FPS, a flight-based spin-off and an "Uncharted-like game" all being discussed.

Indeed, so dramatic are the publisher's intentions that they nearly killed off the next instalment of the series, Dead Space 3.

According to Kotaku, new management at EA have instructed the Dead Space team to consider new ways of expanding the series, with the game in its current form failing to inspire consumers to the degree that they had hoped.

While Dead Space 2 shifted more than two million copies, an improvement on Dead Space 1, EA are still looking for further growth.

As it stands, Dead Space 3 is still in production. Adopting the series' trademark over-the-shoulder third-person viewpoint, it is said that the game will be set on a bright white icy planet and will complete the story arc of protagonist Isaac Clarke.

But beyond that, expect some big changes. Whether or not they are for the best, however, is yet to be revealed."

What say you SW? I'm not sure i'm liking where the serie will be headed after Dead Space 3. Still, too soon to judge.

I don't mind it. DS3 is still in productio and the setting is so interesting I will gladly explore it in other genres.

A first person shooter, would probably give me a Doom vibe if it were to happen.

I don't care :P

What I do care about is Dead Space drastically changing as a franchise. We don't need anymore FPS titles. Extraction was fun for an afternoon but I highly doubt they'll make another on-rails game, and yeah... the genre is over crowded as is.

I'm actually ok with a flight sim. It seems silly in DS. Unless of course you're going to fight necromorph ships and have to destroy they're wings :P I don't love the idea, but there's been a disgusting lack of any sort of flight game this generation so whatever they throw out, I'll take.

Finally, what the hell do they mean "Uncharted-like"? DS and UC already share a lot... what are they going to do? Add climbing? I hope not, why climb when I have zero gravity? They go on to say "action-focused", but DS2 was pretty heavy on action so... not sure what they're getting at.

Give me DS3, I'll be happy. This series doesn't need anymore Ignitions...

With EA's vein attempts to best CoD, it could even become a futuristic CoD clone.

Last time they said that was with DS2, and it turned out great, so I don't mind. I'd say EA treats the Dead Space franchise like a child (even the animated movies were great) so I'm not too worried just yet :D.

EA has a huge talent to transform anything at least remotely original into milked-out dumbed-down rubbish, so lets hope this wont be the case...

Do whatever u want with dead space just don't make it like that laughable Wii version was, on rail bs. I think they should use Cryengine3 for Dead Space 3. This could be an epic combination.

If it takes away the horror, however little it even had, or makes it too damn short and scripted, then EA will not be getting my money.

That's fine as long as they keep the atmosphere and story going. Though there's also a rumour they putting mp in dragon age 3. Not sure how true that one is.

That's good.
.
Game series shouldn't be limited to a single genre because within it there will be limitarions. Expanding like that can work very well. Think Star Wars for exemple, imagine what a waste would be if only flight simulations were developed for it.
.

Of course, taking Dead Space 3 and transforming it in a multiplyer focused FPS would be wierd and would totally reshape the franchise, but that is not what EA is doing, it seems.

That wouldn't surprise me. Then we'll see Bioware coming up with a "we wanted this from the very beginning but couldn't" excuse.

I feel sorry for bioware, I wish a more lenient publisher bought them or they were self sufficient.

Dismemberment plus destruction? Do want. This remind me, i still need to buy DS2 since the original dead space is one of my fav games this gen.

Icy planet would bring all kinds of destruction.

It's only like 9 bucks on Amazon for a box copy.

I'm glad they are taking this approach and not simply releasing the same kind of game like so many sequels this generation.

As long as Dead Space 3 is still Dead Space and they don't waste Visceral's time on those spin-offs, I don't mind. As said before, franchises shouldn't be limited to one type of game.

Translation: It will be dumbed down and casualized like ME3 in hopes of appealing to the masses. EA has already ruined the series by focusing less on horror and more on action, and by adding multiplayer in Dead Space 2.

The series will continue to go downhill because of their greed.
