Seems they didn't lose 1 red cent last year.

Just proves that even if you are the loudest, you still achieve nothing.

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/despite-star-wars-battlefront-2-controversy-ea-jus/1100-6458818/

Sucks for those that don't want this in their online games. Or single player games.

I would rather not any company fail, it's really not good for the industry or economics regardless of how you feel about them.

Gamers cry all the time but they still buy the things they cry about. No one should be surprised.

Edit: Its actually more like the people who are crying are out of touch with reality.

like I had pointed out in another thread.

many of you are far too obsessed with how much these companies makes.

That is not your job as a consumer, your job is the enjoyment of the product.

not praise for the company making money off of you

The job of fanboys is to find worth in the accomplishments of an entity outside of them because they generally feel worthless without it.

Not sure what praise you see here.

And people didn't enjoy the loot boxes in B2.

its marketing brainwashing genius.

get your fans to praise you for making money off of them

which I might add this value system starts to be taught in elementary school damn near

a game has a lot of aspects,. how much money the game made for its creator is just one of those metrics of intrest

hello???????????????????????????????

why focused so much on how much the developer made off of gamers instead of focusing on quality of game play instead?

why are so many gaming threads basically stock investment discussions, do you guys even game for christ sake?

Well, with EA it's a special reason.

They made a lot of cash last year, but the dev that made Mass Effect Andromeda have been cut in half and we won't get a Mass Effect game.

where do I started.

ok

1. how much they made last year IS NOT RELATED to why they may or may not make mass effect andromeda

2. focused on what they make is not related to how much money they make.

I mean really there are a metric F ton of awesome games out right now, why not focus on what you CAN play like Space Engineers for example instead of focused on a game that doesnt exist?

to your question, all the factors behind what may or may not affect a new Mass Effect game are almost entirely out of your reach of knowing (meaning internal business decisions).

So why focus on what you have zero control over and zero knowledge about?

why not (for a friggin change!) dont gamers focus on friggin actual games they can actually play right now for a ^&*( change!

I don't understand this. In any market, there are winners and losers. If competition is healthy, there are still losers. Isn't it better if it happens to a predatory fat cat like EA rather than unknowns, AAs, and indies?

I think you are missing the point.

We like games and we want games and we want the people that made a game to make more games.

Seeing the owner of those people and games flex their fat checks at us while at the same time firing people and saying we aren't getting games.

I'm sure Space Engineers is fun, but they aren't owned by EA.

Message board gamers are so out of touch with reality. Especially since devs/pubs have all of the sales and play metrics right in front of their faces.

Keep voting with your wallets folks. It seems to be working!

Just because EA made a lot of money this year doesn’t mean that the loot box controversy hasn’t had an impact because it has and will continue to have, hopefully. EA still has a number of games, mostly sports games like FIFA, that still have them in there. However there has been a lot of scrutiny on loot boxes now and with politicians and governments looking in on them. EA may have still made money from other things but they certainly would have made much more had there been no uproar over Star Wars Battlefront 2 and they may soon have to make changes to their other games as well.

I hate to say this, but System Wars consists mostly of fanboys who care about things that most gamers do not. I often do not understand why some gamers here treat their system of choice as a god.

Yes, they do. But, they're the very same gamers who buy the games anyway. It seems that more gamers cry & scream, gaming companies aren't even listening to the noise & tend to make more money (no matter how shady their business practice is).

EA have bad business practices... so do 95% of all game publishers. But for some reason they are singled out.

EA has already said that sales from Battlefront 2 were disappointing or below expectations, and they have sparked several countries to legitimately consider the legality of the loot box practice. It's pretty inaccurate to say that just because EA is still making a stupid level of profit, that nothing was achieved by that controversy.

True. And it's nonsense to think it hasn't impacted their profits. They would have kept selling loot boxes in Battlefront 2. They would have sold more copies than the original. They wouldn't face fines and jail-time. But I do agree with the idea going around in this thread that it hasn't been enough just yet. The resistance against evil corporations like EA needs to continue. As consumers we need to draw a line because the law may never do that. Especially in the USA where lobbying is legalized. We may need to organize something more serious, something that has a lasting impact on its own. And it's not just EA of course. We have to keep that in mind as well.

It would be cool if they are not allowed to have public presence anymore. I hear they actually are going to have a conference at E3 this year, and it would be nice if all that money spend would do them no good.

its true on other topics as well.

On steam so called 'game conversation' is all about what developers are talking about, not talking about, promising, not promising, charging etc.

rarely ever talk about games.

same here, company profits, sales figures, pixels per inch, frames per second, cost of hardware....snore.

Yup. I bought shares of EA and Activision knowing that all this whiney crybaby crap online never translates to the real world. They're making money hand over fist. Even if Youtube wants to tell you otherwise. And now, I'm making money thanks to their stocks going up.

FIFA's microtransactions are hugely popular, and their biggest source of loot box income. Why, as a corporation, would they step away from what is making them a ton of money? The casual gaming populace does not care about these things.

Hmm I don't know that I'd agree with that. I think there are quite a few companies that would best fall apart to give way to smaller companies. If only for their influence on governments.

gamers are hypocrites

Hypocrisy is universial, and it is mostly exhibited by hyper-partisan people like harcore gamers.

Yeah but casual gamers or just a Star Wars fan that doesn't really game much won't read forums and reviews of games. They see it online or in a shop and buy it because it looks good. That's why its sold, and don't forget all the people who pre ordered it, those are the ones that made EA break even at release.
