EA seem to be doing some good these days, between the Humble Bundle and now this, have they learned?

Asked if Battlefield 4 can outsell Call of Duty: Ghosts, EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau told CVG: "Look, we are absolutely going for it. It's a competition and we feel really good about Battlefield 4, and we have an old saying at EA which is 'transition is our friend', and we're going to try to lap them with new technology, new innovation and new capabilities. So do I think we're going to do better than last time? Absolutely.

EA's Medal of Honor series has been taken out of rotation, but Gibeau told us other franchises will step up to take on Call of Duty in non-Battlefield years.

"The shooter rotation we think about now is Battlefield, Titanfall and Battlefront, and so we like those three brands going forward," he said. "We're working out how we're going to line that up because that's what you'll see from us. With regards to Medal of Honor, you try things in entertainment and if they don't work you try something else. From our perspective, Battlefield 3 and Battlefield Premium continues to grow."

Source

This is good news I think. Allows more variety between games and supposedly gives each game a 3 year dev cycle

I hope they do, that will force Activision to finally be doing some major changes with Call of Duty.

I feel like 2015 is the year Star Wars will start to get milked to death

Disney are putting out a new movie every 3 years, along with a couple of TV shows.

EA are going to be releasing countless Star Wars games pretty soon.

Doubtful. Look at Battlefield 4 and Titanfall. One is releasing within six months of the other. They'll launch two a year, probably.

Well it's still not bad. At least there's variety in those 3 games so even if 2 launch in the same year it's not the exact same type of game like the MoH games were

Should be interesting, and it should force Acticvision to get off their asses with the Call of Duty IP. We'll see, though.

Thats what I think too. No way they'd expect an exclusive to give CoD competition. Also Battlefront has legitly been confirmed?! ARE THERE SCREENS?! Release date?!

Im glad they gave up with Medal of Honor and put Danger Close under DICE so that they would get better management and be able to produce some good games for a change. It's also nice seeing EA realize that pumping out modern shooters each year just to keep up with CoD is not a good idea. Sounds like they are finally changing their internal business plan to pumping out more quality games and then keeping them supporting with DLC instead of rushing to the market each year.

I think MW3 was the beginning of the end of CoD's domination. Ghosts is going to be the real killer. EA showed the world that there is a damn fine series that offers far more and is kept up to date much better than CoD. BF4 is continuing that trend and people clearly see that. EA's investment into DICE and their heavy advertising for the BF series has helped.

Now we have Battlefield 4 and Titanfall really doing different things from CoD and moving forward while CoD Ghosts is litterally the same thing again.

The generational gap is going to kill CoD's domination. It won't die, but it won't be #1 in the market anymore.

I think CoD was good for the BF series. It gave them great drive and motivation to make as good a game as they possibly could under competition. CoD is resting on it's laurels and they've been doing yearly releases for so long now that to stop doing that in order to update the engine more or to create a much better game would risk losing a lot of business and fans

CoD is a victim of it's own success and ran itself into the ground

if you enjoyed the third person perspective or space battles, you may have to expect disappointment. I don't see either making a return tbh. I'll note that the PC version had first person view.

It really should feel more arcadey, and I hope they model model any potential mp leveling systems directly from BF. I dont just want a mod.

Why? COD makes billions of dollars. Why would they change that forumula?

Its obvious that COD appeals to a metric shit ton of people. Because you arent one of those people you feel they game should be changed despite millions of fans who like it?

COD targets their audience, and it does it well. Meanwhile battlefield, titanfall and battlefront all appeal to slightly different crowds.

I guess everyone thinks their opinion of something is absolute, despite a million other people who disagree. If you dont like the games then dont play them. But saying they need to get off their asses despite racking in billions of dollars is rather pretentious and closed minded.

Was pretty upset that they only gave BF4 a 2 year dev cycle.  3 years just seems 'right.'

Yep, should be amazing. I've been wanting them to do a Battlefront ever since Battlefront 3 was dead in the water, only DICE is capable of living up to the name. Off topic kinda, but related to MoH. I'm saddened to hear what its probably its death. Loved that series, other than the modern ones. I realize in the past WW2 games were done to death, but with nothing but modern FPS games and stealth shooters, it sure would be nice to have another WW2 game done on these next gen consoles.

I think he means that CoD has about run it's course. The uninformed gamers among us will now be exposed to a superior shooter in that of Battlefield(which could also have pretty terrible reprecussions i.e yearly releases and the formula getting watered down and staler with each iteration). The marketing budget has skyrocketed since Bad Company and word has spread

The masses will flock to whatevers hot in the market. I think one of the main draws of CoD was the fact that it was 60fps. Not that 90% of the fanbase had any idea that was one of the reasons they liked it but still. On the new consoles, which CoD fans will probably buy, BF4 is 60fps. So it won't feel as "clunky".

I think BF will be king this gen, unless CoD pulls something truly spectacular out of it's ass.

It's actually a pretty sweet line up from their perspective;

BF is the gritty, realistic military shooter, with a sizeable following.

Titainfall is a fast paced arcadey shooter with mechs and verticality, not dissimilar to CoD, which is the market EA is clearly gunning for.

Battlefront is from a beloved series of games spawned from a beloved series of movies. Arguably the most dedicated fanbase in the world and an instantly recognisable brand.

I reckon they're on to a winner here. And this isn't even counting whatever other shooters they have in the pipeline(they clearly have one or two yet to be unveiled.)

Sounds good to me. Battlefield has been getting better with each iteration and I'm hyped as f*ck for Titanfall (despite having no interest in Xbox One lol). Battlefront will definitely be interesting to see considering it was essentially Battlefield with a Star Wars setting and not it's being developed by DICE themselves. It's a damn shame that EA f*cked up MoH like they did. MoH (2010) was a pretty solid and had some great design and concepts that should have been iterated on in Warfighter. I don't think that Warfighter deserved the reviews it got (MP was damn fun) but it was obvious that it was rushed out the door to meet EA's shooter rotation. I've read rumors that Danger Close and EA were butting heads throughout most of the development of Warfighter which included a mid-development engine switch, which will really mess things up on a barely 2 year dev cycle, and the constant creative differences between producer Greg Goodrich and EA's management. Rumor has it that Goodrich was actually removed from the last 5 months of development on "extended leave" due to these creative differences and his push to not have Warfighter rushed onto the market. F*cking EA.

I still remember playing MOH:AA, the omaha beach mission was epic for its time, played the new MOH(2010) from the humble bundle and its so boring I quit halfway through the 1st mission. Devs, we are sick of fighting terrorists and Russians armed with AKs (its always aks :S)

Good rotation.  Hopefully they'll try out other IPs as well as the years come, but I think this rotation should be solid.  Of course, people are forgetting that Activision also has Destiny on hand now.
