Madden 09- xbox 360 and playstation 3 is actually one of the most shocking abuses in years. The game is a year and a half old. It is like shutting down COD World at war. It is utterly insane.

To bad gamers don't have the balls to stop supporting this ridiculous way of doing business. EA has some real Gall to pretty much force people to buy their new products. This is crap, besides bioware titles I will really try not to buy their products.
Not really. EA never was this bad in terms of online support. I mean some of those games on the list are 5 years old. But discontinuing online for a 2008 q4 game is outrageous. Insane.cant teach a old dog new tricks.
This has been the standard for EA's sports titles for 2 gens now, cant believe people are still feigning ignorance to this.hot114
The only people with the power to do this is EA, its part of the deal that got them to get onboard XBL way back in 04.this is why i prefer NOT having dedicated servers on xbl.

Dedi's are great! But when a company has only its servers up, then its a problem.this is why i prefer NOT having dedicated servers on xbl.

This is abuse imo. Paying for a game yearly to play online is outrageous abuse of exclusive. well, when you put it that way i agree. Why cant they switch it over to p2p like alot of other devs?[QUOTE="navyguy21"]lol, people are playing Madden 10, and hardly anyone is playing 09 anymore. It makes perfect financial sense to do sonhh18
[QUOTE="gamer-adam1"]im not sure you know what youre saying. people always say how there are zero dedicated servers on xbox liveclearly that is wrong because xboxlive doesnt have any servers. =]

[QUOTE="navyguy21"][QUOTE="gamer-adam1"]im not sure you know what youre saying. actually I'm with him on that one Isn't one of the main criticisms for XBL the fact that it has no servers?clearly that is wrong because xboxlive doesnt have any servers. =]

Yes, but EA is allowed the use of dedicated servers, every EA game that has online for the Xbox 360 has or had in this case, dedicated servers.

I see... Still, couldn't we just go back to P2P now?I do because I bought madden 09 for 20 dollars in march, and didn't spend 60 $ on the new version.[QUOTE="chikenfriedrice"]

10 is like 10x's better...one of the best maddens in a long long time
much like madden games are a quick cash in every yearly release, the servers wont stay open if they are draining money.
lol Sports games.

Dont care for sports games, never owned one, never will Ratchet_Fan8
I think you two are missing the point of the thread here. Anyway this is total BS from EA, that's why we need competition for Madden games, PES forced EA to make Fifa better, until it was the best soccer game on the market. So having a competitor for the Madden series would be great for us gamers.
sports games are a waste of money. I buy like one sports game every few years but ya EA is very greedy
Huh? I love football and basketball and buy sports games a\s a result. It is a hobby. I usually buy every other year sports games. You don't need to upgrade to the next version every year which this is basically forcing me to.sports games are a waste of money. I buy like one sports game every few years but ya EA is very greedy

Like someone already said, there aren't enough players to justify keeping the servers up. Yes its unfair to the few people who still play, but at the end of the day EA is a business and they can't afford to be draining money on it. You can't really fault them for it.Skittles_McGeeThis is no way true. The game is a year old and madden sells 3 million every year. There is probably a high amount of online players that haven't switched to madden 2010.

Ah, so you work for EA and help run their servers, so you know how much they cost versus how many players there are? I wasn't aware of your credentials :| In my time working at Gamestop, I'd say my theory is more likely true. The same amount of people that buy Madden one year buy it the next, give or take depending on the year. Many of them repeat buyers. Ultimately though, if EA is shutting them down, its unlikely there are enough people playing to justify the costs. Sucks for those people, but there really is nothing to complain about. EA's a business, this is what they have to do.[QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"]Like someone already said, there aren't enough players to justify keeping the servers up. 10 is garbage worst madden i ever playedDoesn't seem much more shocking than when valve released a new L4D a year after the first, effectively killing off L4D1 as no servers or players could be found afterwards.

Since they hold the only multiplat NFL license, it's a case of "captive audience" (think theater concession stands): either plunk down or don't play anymore.[QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"]Like someone already said, there aren't enough players to justify keeping the servers up. [QUOTE="navyguy21"][QUOTE="gamer-adam1"]im not sure you know what youre saying. people always say how there are zero dedicated servers on xbox liveThere are a number of dedis on Live. It's simply up to the publisher to make the call. Most don't because of the high infrastructure costs. Even on the PS3, few third-party titles use dedis--most of the dedis are for Sony games, who was willing to plunk down to steal customers from Nintendo and Microsoft (burn yourself a little to burn the others worse). PC gets away with lots of them because they're mostly userland dedis, run by other users instead of by the publishers (userland dedis are pretty much a no-no on consoles--security reasons).clearly that is wrong because xboxlive doesnt have any servers. =]

The last Madden game I bought was Madden 95' and I didn't even buy that, my parents did. That's the last time I had ever owned a sports game and anyone with half a brain is an idiot to buy any Madden game that comes out these days. It's the same game, rosters switched around, maybe some tweaking of the uniforms if a team has changed them or perhaps a new stadium, and they push it out for the idiots to buy at $60.
Anyone that has been screwed because of this deserves it as they should have never bought a Madden game in the first place.
Who cares? Madden 09 is old and obsolete. Madden 10 is out and probably better (I don't play American football games)
They reserve the rights to doa s they please with there servers.
Also, for future reference. The PS3 only has about 4 more games then the 360 that use dedicates servers.
