EA to buy Take 2

A huge development especially considering Rockstar Games being a part of EA now which means games like LA Noire etc. are definately going to the 360 now.

I guess I should ask this but is EA preparing for a console launch. Having games like KOTOR, Madden and GTA for launch would pretty much seal up the console war on day 1. Just a theory.nikolajz1

I wouldn't doubt it anymore, probly next gen they'll jump into the console race. Imagine having madden, and all there other franchise on one console exclusively.

There really is no way any company could compete against all of EA's titles.

This will be interesting, considering T2 owns 2K (the only real competitor to EA Sports). I actually think this could be a good move though (outside of the fact EA would own the entire sports game market), T2 has been horribly mis-managed, and EA looks like they're trying to turn the corner and become a respectable publisher/developer again. buyouts actually normally void contracts like that. That is because the new owners didn't sign the contract, the old company did. as such, contracts made before the merger by the company that gets bought out are normally voided.

just like how Bioware's contract with MS got voided.... MS was able to publish Mass Effect because they got it out before the buyout took effect. After that, EA had complete control. That would be a the same here.

As to the comment about Rockstar leaving, where did you hear that? Take 2 OWNS Rockstar. Rockstar just can't up and leave. Doesn't work that way. Not unless Take 2 was either bought out of the contract by Rockstar, or they made some agreement with Rockstar.

actually they bought the rights to publish valve retial games. The actual studio and steam are completly inderpenent.

Also this is clearly a move to counter the activision-Blizzard merger, so it'd be interesting to see how they respond to this. Somehow i don't think the buyouts are over yet.

Oh and another thing, starbreeze are working on a "classic EA franchise"... EA own the system shock licence and after this purchase they own the BIOSHOCK licence. Hmmm.

Take 2 has refused a 2 billion cash offer from EA, so I don't see it happening. If anyone is going to buy Take 2 it will be MS imo.

I didn't know valve was still independent, thanks for clearing that up for me.

This could be huge news. This may make EA larger than Acti/Blizz. Also say goodbye to L.A. Noir exclusivity, and hello to better MS multi-plats. If anything i'd say Take 2 have been holding Rockstar back- EA may be full of more fat cats, but at least they are well managed fat cats.

For example what did Take 2 do with the majority of their GTA3 money? Invest into more games, bail themselves out of their long-term financial trouble? No, instead they used most of their money to rebrand their studios Rockstar North/Rocksta San Fran/Rockstar whatever.

They own the publishing rights, they don't own Valve.

If EA buys take two you can say bye bye to quality sports titles and I will not buy any more sports games if this happens
