EA is falling apart. No NCAA, being sued twice, and not losing money, and maybe, even losing more money for this one guy who made the first madden game.http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/07/24/ea-must-pay-original-madden-programmer-11m-in-damages/ Antonick programmed the original Madden football for MS-DOS, Apple and Commodore 64 way back in 1988. Back then, he signed a contract with EA saying that he should be paid not only for the games he developed, but for any derivative works that followed thereafter. When they failed to recognize the latter category, Antonick sued EA in 2011. As fans know, there have been many, many Madden games since 1988, but Antonick so far has been focused on the games from 1990-1996, which most closely resemble his own work. After deliberating for three days, a jury U.S. District Court in the Northern District of California deemed that the games released during that time period were virtually identical to Antonicks original Madden. The verdict has landed Antonick $11M in damages, but has also opened the door for further litigation that could be an even greater windfall for him. Now he can go to court to argue that the Madden games from 1996 onward are also derivative works from his original, and he wants to grab a slice of the $3B in revenue the Madden series has earned over the years.
