I don't know if they would have hundreds of games, but they would have a lot. They would be some tough competition, that's for sure. The only thing getting in the way of this possibility is the surely outrageous costs associated with the next next-gen of hardware. This is disconcerting nevertheless...

It would actually be quite stupid for them. Look at all of the high selling multiplatform sales they get from the sports games. If they were to releas a console then madden would go from selling on 3 consoles and 2 handhelds to just one console.

You know, seven years ago, I said the same thing about Microsoft, and look at where they are now. It didn't turn out so bad after all. In fact, MS has done a few good things for gaming that I thought would never happen, especially when I first saw the eye sore that was the Xbox. It was a joke...then I played Halo: Combat Evolved. I am not saying that an EA console would be a good thing, but I don't want to rule out the possibility. The only difference is that MS tends to not ruin developers. :?

As I said in a similar thread in General Games Discussion:

Its about the money. EA makes far more money on making games than they would making the hardware to play the games on. Look at how much money Microsoft and Sony are losing (initially) to have hardware out. But the difference here is, Both Microsoft and Sony have "backup plans". They both have their fingers in other pies. (PC software/pereferals, and Other electronics). Nintendo doesn't have that sort of backup support, and thus they were arguably "forced" into making a cheaper console. I salute Nintendo for the risks they take. (I still don't, and won't support them by buying a wii though). anyway, EA going hardware is highly unlikely in my eyes.

Not to mention there is already too much competition out there. If one of the three names drops out of the market, I would say EA would be the first candidate to pick up the slack. but as it is, there are 2 (3 if you include Nintendo in the same market as the 360/PS3) competitors in the race. If there were 4 choices out there, the market would be so far split it would be SO difficult to turn a profit.

EA makes waaaayyyy more money third party than they would as first party. They release all of those sports games on every freaking system out there. And if EA were to enter and win, the industry would either be just EA and nintendo or the industry would just plain crash.

If they were going to release a console, I think it would be dumb to release it next gen. They would be better off doing it half way through this gen.

But I think there own console would hurt them more then help them. They are already plenty successful being a 3rd party, if there console didn't sell, they would be dead.

Microsoft spent4 BILLION just to penetrate the market....

Let me get this straight. EA would make more money off their own console, vice releasing their rehash sports titles on multiple consoles? Hardware is expensive, the marketing is expensive and EA would have to do their best to negotiate withformer rivalThird party pubs to support their console.Releasing their own console would destroy them.

I agree that if EA was to release a console it would sell in the US and Europe for it's casual appeal, yet it would be like the 360 in Japan. But seriously, though, EA wouldn't have hundreds of games a month. They would only haveon-two from each franchise a year .... but still, I reckon EA will release a new console.

As for Nintendo, they will survive with Japan and may be able to release mainstream 'non-gamer' games like Wii Sports 2 ...

Damn, that would actually be a really good idea, they would probably have the most exclusives.

IF they finally decided to become a good company and not rush a lot of their games, then I guess I might buy their console. However, I think if they were developping for their own console they would make it of much better quality.

they basically choose where nfl games go, and thats a big deal, if they wanted to i could see them making a console and it being successful but i don;'t know how succesful. I can't think of any good FPS' they make, although they have racing and sports on lock as well as a game here and there in other genres. It just doesn't seem sensible seeing as they benefit a lot by making all their games multiplat, ya never know tho

If EA did they wouldnt sell any more games then they do now and they would lose a tone of money selling the Console at a loss. In fact they would sell fewer games because they would all be exclusive. Overall it would be a dumb decision.

MS will never buy EA or any multiplatform publisher and no publisher like EA can ever go exclusive because that would automativally reduce their revenues by half or more.

exactly what qualifications do they have to make hardware. sony is used to hardware development so is nintendo. MS was not, look what happened to the 360. EA owns the software lineup, and honestly, more money is made there than costing 1 billion to repair broken boxes. its all bout the $

That would be the doom for Microsoft and Sony.... and for Nintendo?... not so much....

Game Developer magazine's highly-anticipated annual Top 20 Publishers report has debuted for 2007, revealing that the overall winner has changed hands for the first time since it began.

The 5th annual countdown, which this year included a wide-ranging reputation survey alongside revenue, average review, and anonymous partner feedback, reveals a resurgent Nintendo taking the top spot from former four-time victor Electronic Arts.

This year's winner Nintendo prevailed due to top marks for its game publishing in the reputation survey, alongside competitive revenue and average review score marks, leaving Electronic Arts in second place for the first time ever.

The 2007 rankings were calculated by considering number of releases by SKU, average game review scores, and publisher revenue from August 2006 to July 2007. It also included the results of a survey conducted to gather opinions on the major video game software publishers.

More than 300 industry professionals from all parts of the game production process were asked to give their opinions - including comments - on the reputations of each publisher in the survey. In addition, scores and commentary was gathered from respondents who had direct experience with the publishers in the recent past, either as workers or partners, including milestone, marketing and pay feedback.

"Adding reputation-based feedback to our survey for the first time has brought an interesting, more well-rounded angle to the much-anticipated countdown," said Simon Carless.

If nintendo would drop mario from their games, i really think they could make a good sports sim. I wouldn't be too sad about loosing EA's sports games. And i don't really play any other EA games, so i wouldn't really care too much. I just wouldn't buy the console.

Meh....Money is in the software not consoles. Why make something that will only limit the amount of your software purchased?? I think they will stay happy just beinga developer of games....there is no need for a 4th choice in hardware.

ea is half ass in just about every game they make. when they finish a game thats it lets move on to the next project no downloads or updates. What makes u think that their console would be any better.
