Insidious and devious comes from the fact that EA will begin advertising in game before and during FN4 matches. As far as I know they have not fully rolled this out yet, and as such this may be the first you hear about this. I was playing some FN4 online and during the loading screen before the match an advertisement for HBO's Entourage came up in the middle of the screen where you normally see the tip and boxer screenshot. Then whenever the round ended during the corner game the advertisement was on either side of the screen. So I pay 60$ for a game, and in my case 50$ a year to play online, and yet somehow they think its ok to invade my private time with ads. I wish I could sue them, because they will have waited to implement this after the reviews all came out, so that no one will have had prior knowledge this may take place before purchasing the game. EA truly is  I unfortunately do not have ss to prove it but believe me everyone that has this game will most likely find out the hard way sooner or later. In fact I was so bummed about this I almost didn't buy BF1943 even though I had already purchased the points before I saw this happen. Hopefully EA won't try and put ads into the middle of 1943 because I won't even be able to sell that if they do.

Is that a question or a statement? I didn't know they have ever just stuck ads into the middle of a game before, and I am talking about Fight Night Round 4 that was just released.

I own FNR4, but I haven't played it much yet to notice the ads before the matches.

But really, I think ads during the matches only serve to make the game more realistic.....since I've been to real boxing matches (and UFC events) and there are ads EVERYWHERE.

I care because one of the reasons I love videogames as opposed to say TV is that I don't have advertising shoved down my throat every 5 minutes. And obviously Im not the only one who feels this way or EA wouldn't have waited until all the reviews were in to start implementing this bs. How would you feel if in the middle of the movie you paid 10$ to see they cut away from the movie to show some ads? I already paid them 60$ why should I have to put up with ads too? Last but not least if they are going to pull this bs they need to at least tell people before they buy the game, not after.

No, EA = bleeding money. They are hurting, better you deal with some in game ads than not have EA produce the game. This is such a petty thing to argue about, who cares about ads honestly?

Let me get this straight. You are pissed because they have ads in the game. You aren't pissed that you are paying $50 a year for live, and they feature some ads now,and apparantly plan to feature more ads in the future.

And movies do have ads, they are called product placement. This is done to offset the production costs of the movies. Granted it;s more subtle in movies as opposed to video games, but it's still present.

Lets make sure you guys understand that I'm not talking about the ads on the sides of the arenas or anything thats not a big deal. I'm talking about ads directly on screen to the sides of the corner game and during loading making it totally unrealistic looking and stupid.

I guess everyone who responds that they don't mind ads in the middle of the games they paid good money for is certainly entitled to that opinion, it baffles my mind to no end but that is your prerogative. I however am of the opinion that ads should stay as far away from my games as possible, and the main point is if I had known that they would do this before I bought the game I never would have bought it in the first place.

Ads for sports games make sense though. I've been to a ton of live sporting events (both college and pro) and there are ads everywhere.

Do you have live at the moment? I think in one of your posts you mentioned it. Currently do they not have ads in live at the moment...and I beleive they are planning to feature more ads in the marketplace and xmb, if I'm not mistaken.

And quite frankly, I am surprised they haven't done this already.

Well with that attitude be ready to wait through 10 minutes of ads before you can play a round in any game in the future because if you give them this with no hassle they will take more and more until you are watching more advertising than you are playing alot like TV. We didn't have ads like this in any game in the past but I guess we will have it in every game in the future because apparently Im the only one this bothers.

Im sure EA will add fighters and DLC too don't worry. At least you don't have to buy that stuff if you don't want to. If I want to play FNR4 online I have to see these obnoxious ads, however I don't have to play it. I will be selling my FNR4 so I guess its not a big deal to me anymore, just wanted to let people know about this maybe it will save someone their hard earned money.

Wait....the ads only come on when you are playing online...or does it come on when playing the sp mode, or both?

The specific ads I am talking about only happen online because its streamed into the game from EA servers I believe. These aren't the offline ads in the arena's those aren't a big deal and have been in sports games forever, I am talking about dynamic ads directly on the game screen during loading and the corner game when playing online. They take up alot of space, look out of place and tacky and really are not something I ever want to see in any game again heh. If any review I had read had mentioned them I would not have bought the game. EA didn't start implementing this until after all the reviews were in.

Has anyone played it online in psn? Does this happen also. I don't have the game, so I can't comment. I am just curious if this is only for one console and not the others.

I think that ads are ok in sports games considering that in real sports there are ads everywhere. That and dev costs are really high compared to previous gens and ads help devs get more money to sustain their game development. As long as it isn't ridiculously excessive it's ok.

I wonder how people see this.
The way i think about this, You can't just say now that ads are ok, and moan about it when they are all over Your screen in Halo 4 during the respawn time. Then it's too late >.>
If ads are pretty much accepted by gamers, You won't have any legs to stand on soon enough.

I actually think other than this EA has had a really good track record lately. This to me personally is unnaceptable however. They at least should have been upfront about it so I could have passed on the game in the first place instead of wasting my money. I won't be buying any more EA published games after this myself. I don't care how good a game is Im not going to allow them to stand on me with adverstising just because I happen to love their games.

So, you complain about paying for a $60 game that is supposed to have ads (almost all sports games do) and you yourself pay $50 a year for an online service. Double standards FTW?

What is with you people and the xbox live fee. I don't like paying for it but atm its either pay or don't play and I want to play. EA throwing ads into the middle of gameplay is unprecedented and total bs imo. Everyone knows you have to pay to play on Live, but no one knew EA would put ads into the middle of gameplay thats the difference if you want to get technical about it. Yes I pay to play live I fail to see what that has to do with EA's in game advertising. Really if you can't stay on topic please don't post in this thread. Make your own thread among the countless others about live fees, I haven't seen anyone bring this particular point up on this board hence the thread creation Im not sure what is so hard to understand about that.

Do ads really affect your enjoymentof a game? Seriously? Why complain about something that you come into contact with everyday? You crying about nothing. If ads in games bother you so much then just quit gaming or at least playing games which may have ads in them.

How many times does it have to be said? You all are of course entitled to your opinions no matter how wrong I think they are, just as I am entitled to mine no matter how wrong you think they are. I made this thread with the purpose of informing those like me who would pass on this game due to in game advertising. I didn't make this thread to argue if ads are ok in games or not. This game was sold to me based on reviews and word of mouth-if either by review or word of mouth I had heard about the ads before hand I wouldn't have bought the game in the first place. So if there is someone who reads this and doesn't buy the game because of the in game ads then making this thread was worthwhile.

Opinion is irrelevant. How is an in-game ad a detriment to the game itself? Games like GTAIV have billboards interspersed throughout their environment... what's to stop a company from throwing in a real one and you not even noticing? Contextually sound ads are fine... I don't get what people have against them. Why waste good advertising space?

I was annoyed that prototype had some ads but they weren't in my face like FNR4, also Burnout Paradise has ads as well and thats another EA game.
