I have a ps3 right now, but I'm worried that if the supposed $479 zephyr comes out soon that it will takes the ps3's legs out from underneath it before it even has a chance to get some decent games out. With hdmi, 120 gb hard drive, loads of games (with many ps3 exclusives becoming non-exclusive), and XBL, i think it would crush the ps3- at least for the time being.

Idk, I'm within 30 days of buying my ps3, i may swap it for in-store credit and wait a month to see if the zephyr rumors are true...let me know what you guys think...

Heh...I actually had the opposite feeling. When the rumors first started floating around, I dropped any ideas of getting an Xbox360 and just purchased a PS3. If the rumor is true, what's to keep MS from releasing another updated console 12 months from now? 18? 24? I prefer the old system of buying one console, having it be the best piece of hardware that particular company has to offer for the generation, and then buying the next generation system 4+ years later. Then again, MS is a computer company at heart so I guess they're just bringing a new mentality to the game :)

HDMI is the only thing most people care about.

At this point Sony's problems are self inflicted.  I don't know if anyone buying a 360 today factors in HDMI support, and if they do they are a small minority.  The HD will be sold separately, so that factors that out.  I know one thing: it sure doesn't help Sony.

Zephyr was a big mistake IMO, seriously, i own a 360, and 1 thing that i hated was that it wasnt HDMI, cuz taht gives you true high def imo, and component doesnt show its true potential. After so much badmouthing from MS about HDMI, now look at them, they suckin up to HDMI, MS are hypocrites.

i think people value the 120gb hard drive as much as the hdmi...i've heard the current hdd is the biggest problem with the 360. I also thing there will be a price drop with the existing 360 consoles- maybe even elimination of the "core" console.

just google "xbox 360 zephyr" you get loads of hits. IGN and Engadget are the 2 most reputable sites i have seen pick it up. Engadget says there is diffinately some kind of new 360 coming- they had an interview with MS, and IGN picked up the story about retailers saying they had reports of more expensive black 360's in their inventory systems...due for a May 1st release.

The PS2 changes (I looked them up on Wikipedia) were mostly minor cosmetic changes. And for the most part, those changes were confined to the inside of the system before the slimline was introduced. Granted, this Zephyr thing is just a rumor. But I'm pretty sure the changes they are implementing are highly noticeable to even a casual consumer.
