I found this video that shows effects of violent video games compared to non violent games on your brain http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/158504.html

So playing violent video games can make you a more violent person? they only show the effects of two games Need for Speed and Medal of Honor, Imagine if they showed brain scans of GTA

The delinquents on Xbox Live may finally have an excuse for why they act the way they do.

I play UT, CoD, MoH, DoW, CoH, Halo, HL2, CnC and BFME. None of which are particularly nonviolent. The only things I've been beating up are the enemies on screen. :(

Doesn't affect me. I've had a great amount of experience with violent video games. In fact, aside from playing on my SNES, all I play are violent video games.

Played games since I was about 4, never hit a person in my life. That being said if I had kids I wouldn't let them play too violent video games. There's a difference between

this

and this

which is why I feel we don't necessarily know the full effects of video games on children yet.

After I play COD4, I go on a knife stabbing spree, after 3 kills I call in a UAV; stalk my enemies and kill 'em; get an air strike which kills more people; then call in a chopper and wipe out a whole town.

I would disagree with that anyway, when I play (play bad) at pro evo soccer I get more violent than player gears lol.

I believe games/movies/Tv have pretty much the same effect, games might have stronger effect due to interactivity, tho they might also teach more thanks to being able to make decisions(for e.g. being good or evil in Bioshock). but imo follow the ratings, movie, game or otherwise. Still, a healthy brain should be able to make a difference between make-believe and reality.

I don't believe normal people will be affected by violent entirtainment, but some people just are more influenced by these kind of things(retarted/dumb). And with kids I mean under 10 year olds btw... No reason to let kids play something like Postal3. Like I said, I've played violent games and watched violent movies as long as I remember and I'm fine. But there are those exceptions which we call idiots.

And in theory martial arts could be bad as you get used to taking out your aggressions you also in a way get addiceted to that feeling(punching the bag). It might be a bandaid to agressive people to take out their violent urges on a punching bag but it is not the cure, violence breeds violence ..and that has nothing to do with this topic, but you asked...

As for the study in the TC's link. It only shows the short term effects which imo is natural to have different areas of breain activated by different task. I think it's natural that a violent game gets your adrenaline pumping and activates a different area of your brain than some slow paced puzzle game for e.g. It doesn't really say anything about long term effects tho.

I'm sure that violent games DO have an effect on people... It HAS been documented to increase AGGRESSION levels... However those same aggression levels are created by the more exciting physical sports that exist, like Gridiron and Rugby.

Denying that there is NO link is foolish, but saying that it is the CAUSE is also foolish... I honestly believe it could have a deep effect on people who are of deeply unstable mind. Then again, those are the people who are likely to cause harm whether or not they play violent video games.

Personally, I've never known anyone to be actually effected by videogames, and I've known quite a few video game nerds. I've always liked serious, violent themed games as a personal preference and I don't think I've ever actually experienced a moment where the game itself made me aggressive or violent in any way shape or form. The only thing that gets me aggressive to do with gaming is when someone interupts me whilst gaming...

Honestly, does it matter if the games DO have a casual link in your actions? Personal accountability? If you commit a crime, you can't exactly use a link between video games and violence as a defense. No case with such an occurance has ever gone in the favour of the person using that as a defense. If someone attacks me, I do not care what was going through their mind at the time, if they had just ended a relationship, been rejected, done drugs, whatever. I'm sick of people using weak-ass excuses to cover vicious crimes. Worthless parasites who do are just another drain on society. They are the people who weaken society, not the people who create videogames.
