EGM: Dead Space isn't a horror game. More like Gears of War.

"Dead Space seems to veer away from its scary aspects more than promised, verging on Gears of War territory--some call it a horror game, but it isn't. The main difference is that the difficult sections are the ones where you're low on ammo (as opposed to just fighting enemy waves). But as a tense action game with enemy-dissecting guns, it works extremely well.

Bottom Line: We're intrigued by what Dead Space has to offer, but its lack of memorable moments--we've only seen a couple at this point--makes us a little skeptical."

This is taken from November's wrap-up. What do you guys think? Are the other reviews lying?

I think more often than not this game will be compared to Resident Evil 4, which is less than a Survival Horror than it's predecessors and more like a Third Person Shooter.

I pre-ordered the game, and I can't wait for it. The gameplay videos I seen, look fantastic, and no where near what GeoW looks like.

This game, to my knowledge, doesn't feature the ability to take cover. I imagine it's going to be more in the spirit of The Suffering than Gears of War.

Well thats just a wrap-up (preview) meanwhile the others are reviews.

Lying? That's drastic conclusion you want us to make, isn't it? It's different peoples opinion and they all have different taste of what is scary and what ain't. All one can do is really is read the reviews in a critical manner and come to a conclusion one self to either buy the game or not.

And i don't see where they got the Gears of war vibe from.

I think they meant that it's much more action packed than your typical horror game. I don't think they meant to imply that it has the same gameplay mechanics.

You would think they would say RE4 since Gears took insperation from RE4. If im right the dev said it himself.

Meh, I don't really care if it's horror or action. I already bought it, so I just wait.

Hey, I forgot that RE4 was out first. RE4 is better than Gears, IMO of course.

The devs that are making dead space are drawing inspiration from horror movies and they are action packed so one would assume that this game would be a little more action packed than lets say Silent Hill.

Definately, RE4 was one of the best games ever made.

Now this I can agree with, and this is what I was preaching in IRC. Action horror is an oxymoron.

Yes, I know that. But when you pack too much action into a horror game, then you're walking a fine line, because the horror can easily get lost.

I believe if hey say that about the "Gears-likeness" it's because:

- It is more action oriented than a survival horror game. Something like RE4 or Silent Hill Homecoming.

- That you spend a lot of time killing aliens. And Gears is the reference for the Third Person Killing Aliens game this gen.

I said it when I saw the first videos, this game will be something like RE4 in space. I never thought it would be an survival horror game.

More like a TPS with a dark atmosphere. Nevertheless looking good, but I'm still sceptical.

IronBass

Have you played Silent Hill: Homecoming? It's not as action intensive, surely not as action intensive as the other games, but it's not as much action as RE4.

I know. I was just pointing that it is more action-based that the standard survival horror games, for example, prior RE or SH.
