Do you have a link to prove this?the engine has improved since oblivion and they will be using it...
lazerface216
it won't.
but that won't matter because graphics are not important. I just hope they go back to their morrowind roots.

i remember reading it in one of the threads yesterday. i'll look for it.
I'd rather have Bethesda use the same engine, and just improve the gameplay,by removing (or atleast tone down) the lvl-scaling...and add more depth into the gameplay/rpg elements instead of making a shallow game with amazing graphics.
I don't care about the engine really. There's some bigger issues. Bethesda should fire every animator and writer on the team. Clean them out, they're garbage.ParasomniacLol, I agree and disagree..... Regardless that post made me spit my coke on too my laptop from laughing..

Additionally, he pointed out that the upcoming project will run on existing consoles and is built on the same engine that poweredOblivionandFallout 3. "That's our starting point -- theFallout 3tech. It started withMorrowind, we went toOblivion, we did a lot betweenOblivionandFallout 3because now we had final hardware -- withOblivionwe had six months on final hardware, soFallout 3technically does a lot more thanOblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that,"

I don't get this mentality. If this kind of thought process ran these businesses, they'd be out of business.
The Source engine was created earlier this decade, and released in major form in 2004. Since then it is still being used by VALVe as their main foundational software for production of games. One can add to and improve an engine without having to start from scratch.
Honestly, I hope they use the Oblivion/FO3 engine and just tweak it... because Oblivion looks great enough already, and I'd take performance, gameplay and artistic improvements over fancier graphics.
It's using the old engine
" Howard went on to reveal that the game is running on a modified version of the Fallout 3 engine, stating that, "Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that. I can say it is on the existing platforms, which we're really happy with. The new pastel art direction gives us alot more creative scope [by freeing up memory] and better draw distances. You almost feel like you have a new console when you see the game." "
COD: Black Ops runs on a modified Quake 3 engine from 1998. One of the first 3D games that required a graphicsc ard.
The name of the engine means nothing if they've added to it.

Hell yes to firing every animator they have, I mean seriously do they even look at it or do they just use the same techniques that Morrowind used? The writers would be pretty hard to replace just because there is so much lore already that Bethesda would want to keep consistent.
Well...they could simply ask Id Software to borrow some of that Id Tech 5 :D
Bus-A-Bus
I think alot of developers should do this. like every single open world game :P
I don't care if it's a new engine or not, just fix the goddamn animations. Graphics I don't care so much about as long as I can actually tell what it is I'm looking at and see it decently clearly, and I can in Fallout 3 and Oblivion, but it is super unimmersive when everybody has the range of motion of one of those pose dolls used for sketching and everybody seems to be gliding along the ground instead of walking on it.
Feel sorry for consoles that have to play this game on aged hardware...
This game should be played on PC, period.
aroxx_ab
unless it runs on the same crap engine. In which it will look meh anyways. I'm pulling for ID tech 5 :D
I have yet to see a Bethesda game using Gamebryo that wasn't technically pathetic. I'm not just referring to graphics here, they fail miserably at memory management, which often leads to random frame drops. They are often unstable, they are often buggy, they often suffer from memory leaks; and god knows what else I have forgotten.
Bethesda is one of the laziest developers I have known. Because they are constantly cutting more out of their games to reduce their workload; and they insist on using the same bad engine, despite pretty much every other developer adopting new/upgraded engine this generation.
And what always happens? The mod community has to fix it.
I heard Bethesda was going to be using the same engine Rageis going to have for Elder Scrolls 5. If that is reallythe case, this game looks like it is going to be quite pretty.

Isn't ID signed up with bethesda? wouldn't they be in the perfect situation to use ID tech 5?
What annoyed me the most were the loadings between interior and exteriors!
PAL360
Morrowind had open cities, but the loading times on Xbox were terrible. So they locked off the cities into separate cells, reducing the load times on consoles. Of course they had to cut a few spells out of the game to stop people getting over walls, and PC memory went severely underutilized as a result.
There is of course always going to be loading screens to enter interiors though.

Oh sure they could, but knowing Bethesda they will have started on Gamebryo; and cannot be bothered to transfer the assets over and retrain the TES staff.

Maybe then we can get a third person perspective that doesn't look quite so awkward and embarrassing. Just remember, better writers is step one, getting more than a small handful of actors is step two. Also, let's try to get actual city populations. It was always bizzare to me to walk into a supposed huge metropolis, and only see maybe ten people walking around having the same awkward conversations about mudcrabs, sometimes three times in a row to the same person before moving on,
I dont mind there engine for environments, those really dont look all that bad with it, but I do agree they need to do something for character models pretty desperatly at this point.
It will not have a new engine, and consoles are entirely responsible.
Brendissimo35
because Id tech 5 can't be done on consoles? with an open world style? with lots of detail and 60fps?
there isn't any game coming out like that? oh wait.
I liked Elder Scrolls - but seriously, crank up the community modders...Oblivion had > 10,000 bugs still left when Bethesda stopped patching it.
Thank god for mods on the PC.:P

not really, they will want TES5 to run on low end PC's aswell, if they made TES5 the new Crysis it will sell poorly on PC and it wont be on consoles to make up for lost sales
the graphics and such can always be upgraded for the PC version only and still be on consoles, see Metro 2033/Dirt 2/Crysis 2, Devs are just lazy and the game will most likely sell better on consoles anyway

I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with both of you. It isn't consoles fault they haven't changed the engine, neither is it accommodating low end PC's.
Bethesda just cannot be arsed to learn a new engine, they have been using Gamebryo since Morrowind; and cannot get themselves to retrain for something new. Bethesda has been about cutting corners for a long time, they seem to cut stuff out every game.
More confirmation that forum posters know nothing about game development. It is possible to rewrite parts of the engine to increase its efficiency and increase graphical fidelity. Look at the source engine, the Unreal Engine, Resistance, the Naughty Dog engine. It can be done. As the devs said, they only had a short time with final specs of the new consoles, which is why oblivion looked the way it did (though still great). With each game comes new tweaks and tricks. Game will be fine with the Gamebryo engine, all they really need is better (and more realistic) lighting. That can make a huge difference. Look at Killzone. Mediocre textures with great lighting can fool the eye.navyguy21
The best example of engine development would be what CD Projekt RED is doing for Witcher 2. Link to engine video.
As long as one in every five characters doesn't have the same voice actor and if the models actually show a little facial expression when talking to them I'll be happy.PS2_ROCKS
wonder who will be the one famous voice actor? hmm
They already have id's permission to use id Tech 5. id Software said anybody that is owned by Zenimax or any developer published by Bethesda has permission to use id Tech 5.Well...they could simply ask Id Software to borrow some of that Id Tech 5 :D

Oh snap :PSo it will run on the same old Oblivion/Fallout 3 engine? Get ready for another bug infested game with bland graphics and stiff animations.
