The Analysts say that more Wii will be sold to date in 2010 than PS3 by 2011. The only reason they say the PS3 will beat the Wii is because they are assuming people will have stop using the Wii so they have taken some off the Wii total figures in 2011 but the total consoles sold will be higher for the Wii.
So by the way the Anaysts see thing the PS3 will be the winner by default as people will stop using and buying the 360 and Wii to play the next generation of consoles in 2010.
I forgot to add that this analyst in the link is just stupid.
The PS3 will still be the winner in 2020 as people will keep using their PS3 as a blu-ray player and the WII and 360 will be dead.
Analysts? Might as well ask the cat.darklord888
I actually agree with that sentiment and have agreed with it for quite some time. The PS3 is going to be around for quite awhile. Sony is always talking about lengthening the lifespan of systems and they actually did that somewhat with the PS2, it came out a year before the Cube and Xbox and is still alive and kicking right now with software still in the top 10 list. The PS2 has been around for 7 years already. With all the cash that Sony is making with the PS2 right now, I'm sure they're planning on doing the same thing with the PS3. Furthermore, Blu-Ray has pretty much secured it's victory and sales surpassed 360 in North America for the first time this month. I'm almost positive that the PS3 will beat the 360 easily when this gen is over. As for the Wii, that'll be more of a challenge, but as the years go on, the price of the Wii and the PS3 will get closer and closer. And before you say that Nintendo will just drop the price of the Wii, keep in mind that they'll have to start giving money away with the system to match the PS3's price-drops and regardless you eventually get to a point where you can't drop the price anymore. Eventually there will be a day when the Wii is like $100 dollars and the PS3 might be $130 or $150 and when you consider how much more you get for just $30 or so, I think the PS3 will begin to surpass the Wii.
Keep in mind this is coming from someone who owns and loves the Wii and I do not own a PS3 (or 360 for that matter). I'm not a fanboy, these ideas just seem realistic to me.
When have the analysts been right?
Remember they said in '05 that 90% of japan will buy the PS3 and only 8% will buy the revolution(now the wii) and 2% 360. They also said that the wi will never overtake the 360 in worlwide sales. And also that when the PS3 launched in 06, it will overtake the 360 in 07 and will become market leader. And in 07, they said the wii was a fad and its sales will end in 07 and the 360 and PS3 will take control in the holiday season(for PS3) and in the halo 3 laaunch(for 360). So what makes you think they will be right now?

I'd love to be an analyst. Its sounds sooooo easy. Imagine getting paid megabucks for making sh"t up? How freakin' sweet would that be?Quofan
The consumer electronics analysts at iSuppli know exactly how this whole console war is going to end (according to the consumer electronics analysts at iSuppli). While the Wii and Xbox 360 will peak in 2010, the PS3 will continue selling strong into 2011 (when it will crush the hearts of Nintendo and Microsoft while yelling "I told you so, **** at the top of its lungs).http://kotaku.com/356900/the-ps3-will-triumph-in-2011

The only way I can see this happening is if Nintendo decides to abandon the Wii early and release a new console in 2010.

Do I detect a reference to Fawlty Towers? :P Best. Show. Ever.Better than Black Adder and Red Dwarf??? Wow, I'm going to have to look into this. I'd say so. I've always preferred Fawlty Towers to other English comedies - though, it's depressing to think that they only filmed 12 episodes... John Cleese = comedy.[QUOTE="Erkidu"][QUOTE="darklord888"]Analysts? I approve of this messageI also agree with this cartoon.Like when analysts predicted a strong start for teh PS3rd place :lol:FuzionZX
sorry, but you should link that, i don't remember that one. in fact, i always remember analysts predicting that PS3 would win... at the end of the war.
And that sounds correct, you know why? Try to explain to me how can 360 sales go anywhere but down (2008 lineup that doesn't appeal to wide audiences, too hardcore, few hyped well-known titles, bad reputation hardware, etc), and PS3's anywhere but up (2008 lineup with well-known hyped games that made the PS1 and PS2 sell a lot, Home, Blu-ray is the new HD standard format, etc)?

Are you kidding? No one saw PS3rd being 3rd. They predicted it would beat the Wii, and pass the 360 in 2007.

Why are cows the only ones that try to make anyone beleive that Bluray is a good value for movies?
I read a review for the Bluray Simsons movie in PSM. They admited that there wasn't any new features that justify the price. Face reality, Bluray is just another major Sony marketing scam, trying to make people think that this format is so needed just to pony off more expensive DVD's with nominal improvements sound and picture quality. Fact is, I'm getting just as good quality on my HDTV with my 360 and HDMI cable...

DXGreat, i have to say, after all this time, that you're probably one of the worst forum members i've ever seen. you fail to maintain a civilized discussion whatever the matter is, and have to label people the names you want. there's nothing to gain discussing with you, for both of us. i'm going to try one last time, and if this time you go as uneducated as you usually do, i'll just ignore you, and that'll probably be the best for everyone.
about the Simpsons BD review: yes, in that case that should be real, but can we generalize to all movies in HD form? and is Blu-ray expensive? Yes, but wasn't DVD also expensive, even though it didn't face any competition and went in mass production earlier than Blu-ray could? Blu-ray will become less expensive as it's more adopted, that's a basic economic concept.
in fact, even if it was the case, and every HD movie lacked extra features over the DVD version, what we get it for is the superior audio and picture quality, there's a big difference there.
and no, Blu-ray is not necessary. Neither is a video-game or a DVD player. What's the point in accusing it of being unnecessary? People buy it because they want to, not because they have to.
So yes, Blu-ray is a good value for movies, specially when you want better quality than DVDs offer, and when packed in with a system that also plays games, can run linux, is also a media center, etc. that's what adds value to the PS3, and that's a pretty strong argument to say that yes, it's sales won't go anywhere but up this year, while 360 has little to offer to those that don't already have one, except for the already released titles and the online community. And for that case, don't forget that the PS3 will also get Home this year.
If you really believe only cows praise Blu-ray, you should read other things rather than just System Wars' threads.

The one thing we have to remember is that HVD(Holograhic Versatile Disc) will be the future. Which is not to far away. It holding 3.9TB's of storage is just incredible. Right now there are 200gb, and 300gb disc already availble of course enterprise HVD drives only. A high capacity disc will be 160 times larger in capacity than a single layer BD.[QUOTE="SambaLele"][QUOTE="FuzionZX"]Like when analysts predicted a strong start for teh PS3rd place :lol:Vanadium2k8

yeah... sorry but you should link those as well, since analysts usually look for the long-run with their analysis, not as close as a couple of years into whatever market their focusing.
People should also remember that 360's sales are declining... it sold 18% less in 2007 than it did in 2006... analysts actually exists for a reason you know, and it's not to foment discussion in internet forums.

Their predictions are ridiculous. Maybe not their conclusion........but the fact that they only predict about 100 million consoles will be sold.....
Last gen there were like 165 million sold.....and this gen it will go down to 100 million? That's nonsense
who cares? the rest of us will be getting ready for wii2, the third xbox, and ps4, wo what;s thepoint, too little too late 3 years laterSegArgyle
the case is most gamers wait a lot before they buy their console. count as many xbox+gamecube+ps2 sold last gen, then count as many wii+360+ps3 (you also have to count the possibility that the wii is expanding the market this time), and you'll see that the majority of gamers will only buy their systems after 2008...
you know, this is a pretty expensive hobby we have here.

do you know if they'll discontinue the 360 and Wii by then? Sony didn't discontinue the PS2, and it's still selling amazingly.
EDIT: also, a consensus in SW can't affect reality... we just don't know when the next-gen will start.
