Elite 360 HDMI is a rather worthless addition.

You still have to buy a separate $200 HD-DVD to watch 1080p movies. And with 360's 5.1 sound capability I think composite cables would suffice. HDMI is really geared towards HD movie playback and HD sound...which elite has neither....what a joke. MS laughs at fools who will buy this.

In the end the $480 tag for elite..and someone owning a premium at $400...there is NO difference at all.

If MS is releasing it, they obviously think it is not worthless.

The 120gig HDD is going to cost at least $80, so people who want that are already getting a good deal. HDMI isn't worthless, the 360 has 1080p games so it will improve the experience for those who own HDMI equipped TV's.

the difference is i don't like knowing that there's a higher model above the one i own!

otherwise i agree, i'm not a big fan of the elite

And? Most T.V.s don't even support 1080p.

Here's the real reason why HDMI on the Elite is a waste.  While improved PQ over component is negligible, the Elite's HDMI port will be unable to pass either of the next gen sound formats Dolby TruHD or DTS HD Master Audio.

Well of course, PC monitors support resolutions higher than 1080p.

With no TruHD sound yes..worthless to Theatre gurus. I can imagine a guru buying 1k HDMI reciever an find out that 360 1.2 hdmi port sucks.

The elite is all about the hard drive, and not so much HDMI.

a premium360, + the 120gig HD costs more than the elite.  So basically you just have the choice of saving money if you havent already got a 360 and want the bigger HD when it comes out.

Um no, if they have that kind of money they already have other equipment to get the job done. Most people at AVS Forums have the Toshiba HD-DVD player, not the 360 add-on.

COMPONENT not COMPOSITE. Actually, component cables DO NOT provide 5.1 sound, you need to use a TOSLINK optical cable in order to get surround sound to your receiver.

and its still a tiny hard drive, 120gb was standard in pcs in 2004.  400gb in a pc cost you less

I think they did it so that they could distribute more HD movies, most movie companies demand secure video connections to the playback devices. I don't think they did it for the customers, benifit.
