I can name plenty of teens that have done far braver things than survive mushroom outbreak.

Aside from Cloud, I honestly don't remember playing a JRPG where the protagonist is more than 20 years old and even Cloud is like 20 or 21.

Immediately my thoughts when reading the threat title.

The Walking Dead's zombies created more tense encounters and she was so young that I can't even imagine how she was able to develop into the character she did over the series.

With TLOU, Ellie had so many capable people around to protect her and teach her.

Clementine was surrounded by regular people and witnessed so much and still rose to become soch a strong character

I will go with masterchief. As a child he was put through the spartan training, which continued into his teenage years. It was brutal but it was all to save humanity. Yes, he's a true hero.

Oh, and pretty much the entire cast of every Persona game since the PSOne. Kids save their own towns from otherworldly evil while juggling everyday life and schoolwork. I think that's actually a lot harder to manage than just surviving a fungus apocalypse.

I think there's alot of brave teens in games, but I don't think I've played one that's been put in such a desperate and visceral environment as Ellie. It's not the fungus zombies that are the fear element either. Like Walking Dead, it's the brutality of man that's the scary part.

Other teenage characters have special/magical abilities, special training, tech, or the power of love and friendship to help them along the way. Ellie doesn't have that. She's a young girl scraping what resources she can while every opponent she faces can easily overpower her and take her down. I think that's something that separates her from the pack.

Most JRPGs have teen protagonists because that's usually the target demographic. But there are plenty with adult protagonists. For example:

• Vandal Hearts
• Yakuza series
• Various Tales games
• Lost Odyssey
• Radiant Historia

I don't know about that. but The Last of Us' Ellie is easily one of the top 10 most well made characters ever.
