Empire total war hype

I've seen a bit of hype for empire total war and I would like to know out of genuine curiosity what puts this game above all RTS's? Why are you hyped about it?

Again i'm not looking to undermine it, just find out what sold you

Read the IGN review...its pretty extensive.

Its a really unique game though...there isnt really anything out there like it. Think of it like a turn based game like CiV 4, but instead of simulating the battles, you can actually play them in real time. Its a pretty hardcore and deep game, but its very rewarding.

Traditionally, the series has had huge replay value as well.

E: TW will be the biggest, best, most detailed, and most beautiful RTS on the market.

It makes DoW 2's strategy elements look like a coloring book, and even CoH can't hold a cnadle to the sheer scale of a game like this.

:lol: well to be honest I can play HL2 on min settings fine. It's 2 years old and it was a medium range laptopat the time. I mainly use it for work and i can't afford to buy a new one because i'm a student :( But whatever I'll try enjoying the game vicariously through a friend or something ;)

Sure, maybe I'm nitpicking, but it's kinda like calling Gears a FPS. :P

Total war games are usually deep and go way beyond base building, in fact there technically is no base building as the strategic map is turn based. The battles are epic and M2TW had 5k+ unit battles (I believe there could be up to 10K on a map, maybe more), ETW will probably expand upon that. Tactics actually play a role and its not simply use x against y and x will destroy y, many conditions on the battlefield can effect how your units perform. For the first time in any TW game ETW has real time naval combat which is the selling point for many fans. The demo was fun and I expect a great game.

i'm still to buy Empire. I'm waiting a month or so, really want to tie up loose ends on other games, including DoW2 and Warhammer online before i give my gaming time to Empire exclusively.
