Totally callin' Halo.CoyfulCan you link me to a clip where Halo shows good AI? I dont get the praise.
i didn't really find RAGE's AI to be all too smart, there were just some enemies that were acrobatic.ferret-gamerExactly. You'll learn in a few seconds how their patterns work. They're predictable. I found Crysis 2's A.I. to be better, especially when they weren't buggin' out. :P jk. Halo Reach has good A.I.
The AI in rage is not that good. The AI in Killzone 3 is annoying :x I would say it was above average. The AI in Halo reach was also good, though I didnt like that they were bullet sponges in legendary, and that they could spot you even when you were well hidhen from a distance.

IGNORING the friendly AI... It's the way all the Covenant races act, and evolve, and interact with one another and yourself. Shear variety.
Examples like Grunts Suiciding and panicing when their leader dies, Elites flipping and diving to throw of Needler rounds. Hunters nuttin' the wall when their partner is killed. The Brute pack, Skirmishers'll dart around the map, leap and block and dodge your bullets.
You've really gotta play it though.

This is 100% why i said halo reach LOL! @luck_star, It would be a simple case of linking you to any halo reach / halo 3 youtube video. often times they are milling around up to their own stuff. they dont wait in the corridor just for you. its complete unpredictability, it works superbly well, your approach is different, they behave differently. like coyful said, you really have to play it to understand. I typed halo reach AI in to youtubes search and these are the first one that popped up: Halo Reach funny AI moments Halo: Reach AI Fail montage Halo: Reach AI Fail Community Montage Halo Reach: The AI is Stoopid Halo Reach: Don't let the AI Drive Halo Reach - Kamikaze Banshee AI Fail http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KLApi4oeHs Anyway for which game having the best AI? KZ2 had pretty good, havent played 3. LoL bots on hard. :P[QUOTE="Coyful"]

Here is an article from 10 days after the release of halo reach. just try an understand the numbers in here for one minute!
On Tuesday, September 14 at approximately 1:30pm PST, just a few hours after launch, Halo: Reach's online unique user count had already completely eclipsed Halo 3's total tally for the entirety of the week (09/13 through 09/20).
- To account for the same number of online players found in Halo: Reach during that same window (just six days), we had to run the numbers for Halo 3 going all the way back to 8/6/2010, encompassing a full 45 days of Halo 3 play! -
Ultimately, Halo: Reach's online population for the first week dwarfed Halo 3's by comparison, snagging four times the number of total unique users and decimating Halo 3's all time high of concurrent users by more than 65 per cent.
And a few more stats: - 70 Million+ Games have been played -
235 Million+ Player-Games have been played -
2 Million+ Files have been uploaded to File Shares -
5,901 man-years have been spent in online Reach games -
20 Million Daily challenges have been completed - 709,840 Weekly challenges have been completed -
165 Billion Credits have been earned
thats after just 10 days!
Like we both said already, you really need to play it to understand. When you have an AI system like halo's where its unpredictable, of course you will have funny moments.

I know its popular, what has that have to do with the AI? Maybe you should broaden your gaming experience if you think Halos AI is smart. Stalker is a benchmark example of AI, I love it, though in comparison to Halo it's an underground hit; barley known. yet even it has AI fail vids on youtube. the point is that the more popular a game, the more people will point out it's flaws. Thats true across every massivly popular game not just Halo. Have you played Reach?[QUOTE="Coyful"]

LoL bots on hard. :P lol though reach has a decent AI but killzone 3 has the most smartes and realistic AI i've seen on console FPS this gen.I would have to say Halo Rech. I can't tell you how many times I have been flanked by elites and grunts alike on the harder difficulties. Alot of time the elites will push me in a corner and then the grunts would throw a gernade in the corner and kill me. They have also efectivly flakned me. Some times the elites will fire onto my postion and and the rest of their squad would completly go around me a kill me. Sometimes they even used their active camo to sneak behind me. Not to mention Elites and skirmishers are really good at dodging bullets and grenades. The frendly Ai fowever is not so good.

none of those things are exclusive to halo
also, the enemies in halo arent strategic enough to seek cover regurally (though elites will once their shields are down). in most other FPS games, basic enemies will find cover, attempt to flank the player, and try to flush them out of cover with grenades. those are realistic tactics. I rarely see an enemy in halo use them. people totally overrate halo's AI. its mediocre at best.

Even COD's AI just stays behind cover and just does a few shots behind. hardly engaging, or smart either. It doesn't take genius AI programming to make a person stay behind cover and pop shots. halo's AI is the best because it's so engaging to fight, and they have group mentality, variety of different personality AI that accompony each other.
I believe KZ3 has a fine balance between realistic and engaging. They flank, they do combat rolls at the right time, constantly making you change cover

Are you seriously telling me that you've never heard a brute cheiftan command his entire pack to ''THROW YERR GRENADES!!'' only to be suddenly in the midst of plasma storm, or to ''SNIFF HIM OUT!!'' and have a couple minors or grunts break off of the pack and rush you when you're in cover?
What you described is Halo 3's Brute pack in a nutshell, and the entire Covenant in Reach; Skimishers will flank the PANTS off of you! I'm sure Jackels are known to take cover behind their glowing wrist frisbees, and you see Hunters take up a defensive stance with their shields under fire all the time. Hell even Grunts hang back and turtle up behind cover when you pull out a sniper rifle.
The Covenant fight as their roles dictate, I've played Halo to death and I've found that each Covenant trooper fits a niche-
Jackels take up defensive cover positions and hang back as snipers/riflemen.
Grunts are fodder.
Hunters act as heavy sponges/boss encounters focusing your fire through the chinks in their armor or drawing you into CQC (which they've gotten better at over the years).
Brutes will berserk your day, and the pack is a Halo 3/ODST's highlight (they got a downgrade in Reach though, friggen hated that).
Drones are shock troopers that fire at you from odd angles, they're probably the most scripted as they'll pretty much always act as a sudden ambush.
Enginner's buff (though are docile cowards).
Elites are incredible; in Bungie's words ''They're designed as a worthy adversary to a Spartan''.
...And Skirmishers are hyperactive Elites that ruin my freaking day so hard; they don't even care that you're playing a game.
Most arn't ment to rely on pop and drop cover mechanics. Instead they're focused on throwing any combination or all of the above into a level with Tanks and Banshees. All these different silhouettes darting around doing there own thing cooperatively.
Killzone 3 definitely. FEAR 1 still has the best AI in any FPS I've ever played. The greatness of Halo's enemy AI is equaled only by the failure of its friendly AI. Not really sure why Halo's friendly AI is so bad, but it is. The enemy AI in Halo games is pretty damn good, though at times it feels like it's just blindly agressive. Not really sure how this turned into a debate about Halo but I guess this is System Wars.
stupid pic>CoyfulHalo 2 is probably my second most played game of all time, so you're assumption of me being a hater is wrong. Nice one.
