I applaud Epic for not utilizing Microsoft Games for Windows and LIVE. I hope more developers follow suit. The more that Microsoft is cut out of the equation, the better the gaming experience.

No, they couldn't. Vista is open format, it's not 360. If MS would even try Epic would just go to court and sue for couple dozen million dollars and they would win for sure. MS doesn't "own" pcgaming.
