In the words of the angry video game nerd, "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!"

At the very least you can make your opinion heard, join the Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott Group on steam Here.

I defended Left 4 Dead at the $50 price tag. You know me, I'm the Left 4 Dead nut, hell I was hyping Left 4 Dead to an absurd amount. Sure the game was lacking in content, but I thought Valve was going to support it like they said they were. It was supposed to follow the TF2 formula.

Great Valve, we're getting a new sequel barely a year after the last one came out; with alot of features that everyone wanted in the first game. Hell the first game still doesn't have all the bugs fixed. I never thought I'd say this, but **** Valve, this move is below them.

After discussing it with the members of the original Left 4 Dead Steam Fan group; Valve sucks. We were sold an inferior product because Left 4 Dead 2 has obviously been in development either shortly after or before the final game was released and who knows how long they were making plans for it. We were sold the beta game, and they decided to cash in and make the game everyone wanted. A year ago, I could never see myself saying anythign bad about L4D or Valve, but I suppose I have no one left to respect anymore in the gaming industry.

For those of you new to system wars, here is my Left 4 Dead Hype Thread.

Valve releases the press release. Sequel to Best-Selling Co-op Thriller Coming This Holiday

June 1, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2), the sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed co-operative multiplayer thriller.

Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-operative action games and become one of 2009's marquee titles.

"A large part of how Left 4 Dead became 2008's top-selling new IP on Xbox 360 and the PC was the custom-tailored gameplay made possible by the AI Director," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "With the knowledge gained from creating the original, new technology, and a passionate team, L4D2 will set a new benchmark for cooperative action games."

Set for release on November 17, the title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more.

Introducing the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

Featuring new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, and maps for Survival mode available at launch.

Supported by a $10+ million marketing campaign, Left 4 Dead has sold over 2.5 million retail copies since it was released in November of 2008. Left 4 Dead 2 is targeted for release on Xbox 360 and the PC on November 17, 2009, and will be launched worldwide with a multi-million dollar marketing campaign across TV, Outdoor, and Online.

"Left 4 Dead was backed by our most aggressive advertising campaign to date, and resulted in a top 5 showing on two platforms during holiday 2008," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "Left 4 Dead 2 is a larger game and will be supported with even more consumer and retail advertising programs than the original."

Left 4 Dead 2 will be featured as the cover story on PC Gamer and Official Xbox Magazines this month.

My thoughts exactly, looks like they won't update l4d as much anymore, I was expecting it to be like TF2 instead they give us a sequel after we got all hyped.

yeah .. it's pretty strange .. they are providing updates after updates for TF 2 but a new L4D 2 so soon is pretty surprising

Yes I did, I am fuming at this betrayal. Valve better give me some more info, or they will drop fast from my favorite game developer (who at one point I believed they could do no wrong).

L4D didn't have that much content on release, but one of the main reasons I got it was the promise of future content. Now, only a year later, another is coming out with barely any actual content released for the original game. Heck, the SDK for the PC version was just released.

I'm going to be skipping this one unless they can step up their game. I'm not paying another $50 for a game with that little content and will onyl be rehashed a year later.

This sure as hell better not be their only announcement. I'm really disappointed at them for this L4D2, when the original needs more content to justify even a smaller original price tag.

I blame Turtle Rock Studios, the original Developers. They are a separate branch of Valve. I can't even watch the E3 Press Confrence anymore.

They better make triple the content of L4D if they actually want L4D 2 to sell. The first one was great but it was limited in content. I would have rather had Valve/Turtle Rock update the first one a little bit more (like TF2) but apparently its too much to ask of them :(

but it's valve, the guys that take forever and a year to make sure their games are perfect. Thecompany that told us they were going to fully support l4d with new updates. Selling a sequel within 1 year... it's not Valve, it's Activision.

I think this is a combination of Burnout being supported by free DLC but not selling any more units than usual, the continual success of stuff like Madden and Guitar Hero, and the odd backlash that comes from releasing DLC where people claim that they were cheated somehow. L4D was basically a multiplayer only game with 3 or 4 maps that sold for $60 and it sold damn well on 360. I think the logic is truly, "these guys just paid $60 for 4 levels and are happy about it. Why the hell would we do DLC where we add in like 2-3 maps for $20 when it's proven that people will pay $60 for that same amount of content and be totally happy with it."

Ever think that they wanted to support L4D and all of the changes they wanted to implement lead to a new game. I have the 1st on PC and will get the sequel without question.

He's got a point though, this is how it seems, ppl pyed 50-60 for a game that had like 4 maps and 4 weapons yet valve said they would keep this updated in a similar manner to TF2, so some of those who bought the game at full price had this in mind.

Yeah, strong sales for Valve games continue because Valve has a tradition of supporting their games long after release. I know I bought it expecting that new content would come in the future, after all its Valve. Now, to release a sequel one year later, is a slap to the face of people who placed their trust in Valve when they bought this game. We were expecting a multiplayer zombie game that we would still be playing years after release, not one that would get replaced with a slightly updated version annually.

Meh, Valve provides Steam for free, updates to their games for free, and they add incredible value to each game. I don't really care at all that they made another L4D that they plan to charge money for :P

Meh, i will still buy it. Valve is awesome and has never made a bad game imo, so doesnt really bother me much.

Sure it would be ncie if they waited another year or two, but us pc gamers do have Matchmaking 2.0 coming out soon that will allow peopel to play all the hundreds of user made campaigns together. So i highly doubt Left4Dead is FINISHED. There are some awesoem user made campaigns that ive beta tested for for left4dead and once the new matchmaking 2.0 comes out, people will be playing new campaigns,etc.. until the new left4dead comes out.

These campaigns aren't even going to be finished fully before the new game releases. Playable maybe, but not finalized. Furthermore once L4D2 comes out, the community will be fractured between two games.

Too early for a sequel, I do agree. But as long as they do it right (1st off, more campaigns and a better single-player experience) I'm sold.

Agreed. Direct sequels with only one year apart are rare, and Valve was never know for releasing sequels that fast. They support their games, and that's what makes (made) them one of the best.

i agree, still to early, but hey im ok with it as long as the game is awesome (which it will be, its freaking valve)

and i love the new setting, it reminds me of george romero's day of the dead

The fanboys are out of control today. Has it ever occurred to you guys that L4D2 might actually be really good? That it might have new features that make it different from the original? Don't go assuming that it's just an expansion pack to L4D. Also, how do you know Valve is done with L4D content? :| There are too many glass half empty people here. Valve hasn't disappointed me yet, so I'm expecting L4D2 to be an awesome game, just like the rest of Valve's games.

Its ok for Call Of Duty to release games each year, but not for Left4Dead? riiiight.

I will continue to trust valve, as they have never let me down. If L4D2 is a dissapointment then that will be the first time for me with valve. But ill wait till teh game is out to judge. They probably have learned alot after makign L4D and im sure L4D2 will be even alot better then the first one was. They have probably seen the competition (killing floor,etc..) and are going to make the best zombie game ever. Ya never know till the game is out.
