I feel like the only person that has literally zero interest in achievements....
As for the topic, not sure if this is a good thing or not. Will GoG still have it's "no DRM" policy?
I bought Satisfactory on Steam, to play online they make me sign up for some Epic account; will I need to do that stupid nonsense for GoG games that are on Epic?
if I launch the game from GoG, will it then launch the Epic store and launch the game from there?

You've never used GoG, have you?
You have to understand that people hate Epic Games because of the exclusives. They're forced to use something other than Steam. PC people claim that "no one has a problem with GOG" "we like GOG", but it's clear that they don't even use GOG, and probably never have. As much as people claim that it's not about competition and having to switch to another platform, most people naturally want all their stuff in the same exact spot for convenience. These people have been with Steam for over a decade probably, and all of their friends, achievements, and games are on there. They likely don't want to ever use another service and have to build everything back up and add all of their friends on that service.
I use literally everything but Tencent-Epic. They are inherently anti-consumer. Eliminating choice is anti-consumer, it's pretty simple when you cut through all the bullshit. Having to sit around for a year to buy a game on literally any other store--Steam, GoG, etc--is just stupid bullshit. That's reason enough, and we aren't even factoring in the host of other reasons.
Tell me how it's a good thing for the customer? Do they offer a better price? Do I somehow benefit from the Tencent-Epic store's lack of everything? What do I gain by buying this at Tencent-Epic and only Tencent-Epic?
No one has been able to answer this.
Exclusivity only benefits the retailer.
And yet people defend for God-only-knows why.
People are under this false impression that we are bitter because "we have to use something other than Steam" but I still don't see that anywhere. I and many others have been using other applications besides Steam for years without complaint. Sure, it's nice to have games all in one place, but if I need to use another application then so be it; not a big deal.
The issue is that Epic is a bunch of jackasses that got lucky with Fortnite, haven't made a good game in years, are losing the BR market, took some money from Uncle China, and are desperately trying to buy their way into the game selling market instead of earning it like Steam, GoG, and yes even EA and Ubisoft did.
Whatever. I'm a consumer, if I like the price and the game then I'll buy it. Give away free games too? I'll sign up. The business end is not of my concern but they at least give developers a much larger cut and that's a huge deal. You're probably too young to remember GOD games but they were a publisher that attempted to give developers a larger cut of their game sales and that's important if you want to support a good developer. But you don't care about that because you have a narrative to support instead of the developers.
Oh I remember Gathering of Developers (I've been gaming since about 1990, so don't "listen here, sonny" me lol). How long were they in business? Three years? Gobbled up by a larger publisher if I recall correctly. Not the best example to argue your case.
And I don't care about the narrative. What I care about is honest business dealings.
Free games? Those are bribes. They're also used to pad their stats as they count as sales. Regardless, there are a ton of free games out there anyway.
Price? Haven't really seen any good deals from Epic.
Larger cut? Pointless if you sell fewer units. A lot of games actually sell more units on Steam, GoG, etc. after their exclusivity contract expires after a year than they did when the game was new and only on Epic. That speaks volumes.
What about Epic's reputation? They have a 1-star rating with the Better Business Bureau. If you search for reviews, they are rife with poor customer service. I don't think I saw a single good review.
Make no mistake: Epic want's all of the market. They want to be Steam, bigger than Steam probably. And we do not want to be left with Epic as our only option. As soon as they have that large market, they will increase their cut of the profit and probably be worse than Steam in that regard. It's what Amazon does, after all.
You might be a consumer, and I am too, but it is good for no one to be irresponsible and short-sighted when considering purchases. Look at the big picture and you will see why Epic is bad for consumers.
Still haven't told me why exclusivity is good, by the way...
In the end, I will side with privately-owned, non-publicly-traded, American Valve that is focused on customer service and positive experience before I side with Epic that, frankly, doesn't give a shit about me or you.
