Epic Store is all about the Publisher, not the consumer.

It's like they're actively trying to shoot themselves in the foot. Especially now GMG has CAD pricing.

I can see why all the greedy publishers are flocking to them, and people are stupid enough to support them to get a new game for 50p less while getting arse raped later down the road when there is no choice.

A) Was a PC gamer for more than two decades.

B) My PS4 games are cheap, do not buy at full price.

C) I have always found it hilarious that PC gamers want a Steam monopoly.

Not my problem that you guys have issues with more competition and developers/publishers getting a better cut of profits. But lets not get into the issue of people's morality.

You sir have no idea what a monopoly is then........ Steam is not a monopoly.... EPIC's actions shows that they are anti competition ..... Strong arming consumers in forcing them to use their inferior platform by bribing a publisher exclusivity for a year "Metro Exodus " two weeks before release. Their platform has major security issues, And now EPIC is preventing publishers/devs in selling keys to 3rd party sellers like HumbleBundle,GMG etc.

EPIC is not competition when they corner the market in where their service is the only place to distribute said 3rd party games

At this point I'm wondering if Valve paid off Epic to be their competitor so that Steam can look even better :P.

I don't think Epic realizes that if they want their store to succeed, they need customers that actually want to use it.

I got Metro on Steam, luckily, and I am also getting a free Division 2 key from my video card. I would rather not support Epic unless I completely have to, in this instance. I probably will have to get some games on there, eventually, such as Maneater once that finally comes out.

It's looking like this is the case.

People are so focused on destroying the "Steam monopoly" that they don't realize the competitor they're trying to push and defend is exactly what they don't want.

Grow up and support the damn industry. Buy the game from the actual website.

If you can afford to buy a $5000 PC, you can buy games for full price. Just because you spent so much on a PC doesn’t mean your entitled to free or cheaper games.

Actually they fully realize that, they just want to see PC gaming crumble/destoryed/less successful because as you well know it has been kicking the console's a$$ for almost a decade now largely thanks to Steam.

looks like it can still be pre-ordered on some 3rd party sites (such as Green Man Gaming). I guess they will somehow prevent sales from continuing after it launches?

I was willing to give Epic a chance when they started taking games from Steam since I think Valve needed some real competition, but after using the Epic store/launcher with Metro and now this, they do seem rather shitty compared to Steam.

@pc_rocks: Some of them hate Steam because they see it as what stopped Valve from producing Half Life 3 and other games. They're so delusional and desperate for Half Life 3 that they would let a competitor like Epic Games destroy everything Valve has done with Steam to make PC gaming prosperous if that is what it will take to push Valve to make it.

But Steam was never ever a monopoly, just lack of competition. And gamers need to stop asking for HL3, it will never reach gamers expectation if it were to be made today. Epic is clearly doing more harm to the PC community then competing.

Yet the Epic defense force just keeps regurgitating "They only take a 12% cut!", "Competition is good. We'll get more bang for our buck and the closer we'll get to Half Life 3!", "Valve has had monopoly for too long!", "Exclusives are good for the market some games couldn't be made without being exclusive." and other crap that is pro publisher and not pro consumer.

What good is competition if nearly all the competitors are crap. It's like a horse in a race against a snail, a turtle, a two legged horse, a lazy horse and another horse that goes the wrong way. Steam always had competition it just sucked in comparison so much that it was never really that much of a threat.

Funny how some people claim that Steam needs competition in order to evolve despite Steam being the dominant distribution platform it never went out of it's way to lock games into exclusivity like a real monopoly would. Valve had continued and attempted to push PC gaming forward in many ways such as making Linux gaming more accessible. While Steam machines failed the Steam controller was a success that made playing M+KB games way more accessible from the big screen. The Steam machines themselves brought a lot more attention Linux and Linux has a lot more games coming to than in the past. Valve is even working on a modified version of Proton so more games can be emulated on Linux so people Linux users can play everything even if it's not native. Another big is that Valve actually tries to experiment with all this stuff while the competition is just doing bare minimum.

yeah i guess i fall into that group, grew up on valve, valve got me into PC/online gaming, day of defeat, team fortress, counter strike, i care more about those franchises than half life or portal to be honest.

But yeah i miss valve in general, not half life 3, but i miss the games. i diddnt fall in love with steam, i actually diddnt like having to install it back in the day just to play thier games, but i did it anyway because the games were worth it, now valve puts out shitty card games like artifact filled to the brim with micro transactions, valve is dead, and steam is nothing but a an online store, gabe sold out and idgaf about steam.

Let me ask a few very simple questions.

Why does it upset you if you can’t buy the game you want to buy from a 3rd party website, vs the actual publishers website?

If the games on third party websites were either the same price or higher than the publishers price, would it still make you upset?

My thought; you’re only upset that you can’t buy it cheaper.

Imagine creating something, or having someone you know create something. Are you going to do everything you can to ensure you get the most value for your created “thing”? Or would you be okay with other people profiting off of it while you sit there making less for no good reason.

Do you understand the entire concept of a "free market?" You literally described what devs/pubs do... They sell their games largely through third-party systems... Entire economies are built off selling products via third-parties. Why? It boosts saturation and reduces cost. The digital economy has narrowed that scope, but there are still storefronts with far more sway. GreenManGaming has become a huge site for selling digital keys.

If that's your takeaway from the Epic Store debacle, then please stop posting. It shows a distinct lack of comprehension.

Some of them, yes, but they are a minority. The vast majority of people who are in favor of Epic or lectures PC gamers on welcoming Epic are the same people who hates PC, don't even play on it in the first place or have no clue about. Just look at all the threads about Epic Store on SW and it's dead giveaway.

Mehh while I do think the epic store is pretty crappy, I fail to see how this is a bad thing... pretty amazed that steam have t done the same thing years ago, as I doubt they earn any money hosting a game bought on all the grey market key sellers out there!

If all Bethesda store does is sell their own I.P's and games then it's up to them to potentially restrict their audience. Epic are trying to ring fence a private garden but with other peoples products and that makes them a very different threat to the intrinsic freedom of the PC.

1-Who's bragging about their PC hardware cost here? You get what you paid for whatever you put into a PC.

2-The real complaint is, it takes away what makes PC an open-platform and Epic store is clearly a close-platform cause it's trying to be a console like on PC.

When they corner the market in where their service is the only place to distribute said 3rd party games.... ie "Exclusivity" syndrome from consoles. Its one thing to promote "your" companies product on your platform. Its another when you force a 3rd party from being sold else where on an open platform/market.

The fact that they are preventing the distribution of the selling of keys from other outlets also enforces the anti competition outlook of EPIC.

Epic-Tencent should be ashamed of themselves. Not only do they offer a sub-par digital storefront that lacks a good selection, competitive prices, comprehensive support, player-based community, mod support, and a lot of other things...but now they are getting even worse with their strong-arming and corrupt exclusivity practices.

If I decide to buy The Division 2, I won't be getting it from the Epic Store, that's for damn sure. Might not even get it at all, given Ubisoft is complicit in this anti-consumer bullshit.

Epic store literally has like two games I am interested in right now--Satisfactory and the Rebel Galaxy prequel--I think I can skip those and continue my boycott.

For everyone else that is avoiding the Epic store, hang in there; it's going to get worse before it gets better, with more titles being exclusive to them, but that only means they are getting more desperate.

I don't think you really understand what fair competition, capitalism, PC gaming, open development, and open markets are really about.

If you did, regardless of your obvious bias for the PC platform, you'd know why this is a terrible thing for the video game industry as a whole.

Exclusivity will exist in stores on the PC and sooner or later it'll be the norm.

The time of "free market" on PC is over.

Sooner or later all major publishers will have their stores while blocking 3rd parties keys.

This is what digital is all about.
