Eternal Sonata Demo out! PS3 vs. 360 (56K **** it)

The demo is out on the Japan PSN, so I figured I'd do a quick comparison between it and my 360 copy.

My setup. PS3 and 360 both using HDMI, 22" LCD, speakers velcro'ed to the top of it, Decalgirl stickers on both.

PS3. HDMI definitely makes a difference for the 360, vga looked much softer. To think MS said it wasn't needed this gen :P Color differences are for the most part gone with both using HDMI. 360 does have slightly better water reflections, but any other differences are not very noticeable.

*EDIT - Updated pics once again and used HDMI on the 360, turned on RGB Full for PS3.

the Ps3 seems to have better lighting and a bit more detail overall. but it looks worse than 360 in the 2nd last comparison (the flowers)

I mislabled. The flower one with Chopin is the PS3 version, Polka the 360. I fixed the lables. Alot harder to keep track of comparison pics than I thought.

I think he mixed up that image you're talking about because I don't think Ps3 supports VGA, could be wrong.

so the PS3 version is better, but that's what I expected anyway.:)

looks good on both systems, il get it on ps3 because thats my console of choice, but I dont think anyone will be missing out anthonydwyer

I bought the 360 version for 10euros (15$) a month ago. fun, great looking game but not full price worthy imo. not even for 40$

I bought Persona 3, played it, loved it. Then the FES version came out, I bought it too. But I already had 80 hours poured into the regular version, I couldn't bring myself to go back and replay the remixed FES version of The Question. You can't go back and play something for the first time again, and while I have the 360 version of Eternal Sonata, I want to play the real version of it with all the updates.mbrockway

From what I read the PS3 one only has 2 more playable characters, I don't think that would make it the "Real version" would the PC/360 version of Fallout 3/Oblivion be the "Real Version" because of the DLC, or would GTA 4 360 become the "Real Version" when the DLC comes out.

Both games are pretty much the same, only a question is would the bonus content be worth around $25 more if you have both a PS3 and 360?

I'd say those changes make it the real version.

Alright it is better than just 2 characters, but we should wait to see how many new battles, music, and endings there are it is on the NamcoBandai site, so they would make it sound better.

But the question still stands would it be worth $25 more if you have both a PS3/360?

To me, yes. One of the complaints I remember was not being able to change equipment, plus extra endings seems win to me. Probably not worth it for anyone else.

What I'm wondering though is what was up with those crappy comparison pics that showed terrible cone lighting that got posted here when it launched a few weeks ago in Japan. They had to have been early shots, cause the lighting here looks identical.

The first pics I put up were using VGA on the 360. I went back and replaced them with HDMI pics. Check out the edit history for the old 360 pics and you'll probably agree. He says it looks the same with HDMI a couple posts down.

I am stupid. One more picture update. Forgot to turn on RGB Full Range for the PS3. That seems to take care of the contrast difference. They still look pretty much the same though.

I'd get it again. I've played through it twice on the 360 (initial and encore) and I'd be happy to sign on for the PS3 version, if I owned a PS3...

1. the post you quoted is dated. The TC mislabled the two pics I was talking about plus he updated the pics 2 more times.

Barely notice any difference. Great game, beat it months ago but not worth another playthrough and certainly not worth another purchase imo.-DrRobotnik-

I agree. The game is too easy and too short. And there's nothing really in the "hidden goodies" department which is what most gamers want (like me) from JRPGs. Still a fun game to play tho.

About how long is ES?

I'll wait for a Sony backed mag says its looks worse or an Xbox mag says it looks better. That was so much easier with Bioshock (not that it looks worse).
