They're not official, but they provide a damn good estimate of market trends and they do not deserve this constant bashing. What they do is admirable, because they do it for free in their own free time.

They use the exact same methods of extapolation that NPD does. They just don't have the size, contacts, money, resources, and sample sizes to be as accurate.

This was to be expected of course with a 200 euros price drop.But sales will initially drop down again later... unless a good game can counter that.

NPD is a professional company. Big business. VGCharts is run by some random person, who has 0 access to anything. All they do is make educated guesses. Even NPD said that they are way off.

Not very much. Go talk to ioi (the site admin) some time. He has a full-time job away from VgChartz and is sometimes days late with his updates.

You can register on that site and send ioi a PM, and he'll tell you personally how he collects his data. You don't get a 10% margin of error by making things up.

That works for the US and all, but Europe's numbers have never been reliable from anyone consistently hardware wise. That is why NEOGAF doesn't use them in any type of bets. Now if he had someone give him educated guesses from inside the three companies, that is another story.
