Take a look at sweden for example. here we get, just as in the rest of europe, a worse ps3 when it comes to backwards compatibility, and as it says in the swedish news, a ps3 with cheaper components, due to "development costs". yet we pay 891 us dollars for it. and guess what? no 20 gig versions here. sony is losing so much on them that i wouldnt be suprised if they pulled it from the market alltogether. yes, it has a pre-order record atm, but that is, because there are hardcore playstation fans that will buy it. once thats over however, there will be nothing left to get in europe, just as in japan, just as in usa. wii and 360 have been out for a while now in europe, ps3 is the only last gen console left to release, so of course even ps3 will sell out in the first months.

So by your math, 10m (360), 5m(wii) and 2m(ps3) mean that most of the market is already taken. God someone must have a huge ps2 collection. Fact is, ps3 might not be first in japan, but it's doing ok, and 360 is not doing so spiffy in europe either (half the sales of USA in a market that is about the same size).

It doesn't get the credit it deserves in that area. However, what about Warhawk, LBP, Army of Two? Just off the top of my head.

Those games seem to me like they are on the opposite side of the coin. Games designed with online in mind but not a strong single player. Still, I don't see too many people hyping any of those games as interesting.

You know, I really don't like how much emphasis is being put on online. I would much rather have an incredible single player game than a good online game, any day of the week. Online gaming is directly proportional to who you are playing with. If you play with a bunch of people that love friendly fire, spawn killing, no communication,are playing the game 24/7 and are ridiculously good,cheat, or just plain suck, the experience is not going to be a favorable one. If you play with a good group of people, then yes, it can be a ton of fun. An incredible single player game is much more satisfying IMO. Thats why I buy the game. I don't buy it for the online. Online should be a nice addition to an already spendid single player game.

Yeah , Gears was a great game with good online but imagine if the story mode was 10 hours longer. Most of my favorite games don't even have online, but maybe that's just me.

In Europe there are tons of casuals. I have some at school. We were talking about games and they don't even know what an Xbox 360 is. And when I mentioned I was playing Ninja Gaiden on my X360 they thought I was lying because it was an original Xbox game. They don't even know what backwards compatibility is.
They also didn't seem to know HDDVD existed. And to top it all, they didn't even know what games PS3 would launch with. They said they would just go and buy it and then check the cases to see which game looks the best.
And this is how allot of people are in Europe. Pure casuals. PS3 will sell heavily in Europe just because of the lack of knowledge people have over here. In terms of consoles that is.

I checked out your link. all it showed were just sales numbers. I'm into games and not numbers. I love PS3's games, especially its future releases, I bought it because my favourite franchises are still on it, e.g. Gran Turismo, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Tekken etc.
