"A clear picture of the total number of consoles sold in Europe has emerged today.

According to IDG data released by GameStop, the active European games console market in total is around 153m units.

114m of that are current gen machines, which breaks down like this:

- 14.7million Sony PlayStation 3units
- 24.9million Nintendo Wii units
- 13.7million Microsoft Xbox 360units
- 14.8million Sony PSP units
- 46million Nintendo DS units

The numbers are actually as of December 2010, so you can assume they have risen a touch since."

so with all this talk of the ps3 "owning" the european market compared to the 360, it's actually only ahead of microsoft's console by a mere one million units. keep trying fanboys...

...in other news, the DS sells like hotcakes EVERYWHERE.

I wonder how many countries they account for in the data. Still, at least some of the larger countries are tracked.

ugh.....I still shudder when i remember waiting a year for a game to get a PAL sticker on the box.

Does anyone know how much the EU market has grown by? Insane numbers, especially when you consider most people are still PC gamers.

So I hate to play devils advocate here.... But how reliable are these numbers? there are too many questions about them. Are the only Gamestop numbers? Who is being excluded? Do these include refurbished units?Jynxzor
