The article's decade claim is not making much sense. Prototyping, is just that prototypes of potential games. If the game is being rebooted then it most likely is based on a new protototype.
With that said, this news is not surprising. Last year January, these folks were still saying that they are trying to figure out what Everwild would be. 😐 6 months after the reveal. 😑 They don't know what the hell they are doing with this game.
So, it has been confirmed that the game is vaporware, well at the very least the original idea. The idea that they didn't even know.
EDIT: This also fits into, "If there is no gameplay, assume the game doesn't exist."
