CoD4, it's got all the components to be hugely succesful, and quite possibly the greatest FPS of all time.Evilmaster101
idk about cod 4. the multiplayer is alright, ive been playing the beta a bit lately to pass time till halo 3. half the guns in the game are worthless, half the perks are worthless, and the gametypes are a huge bore. it wont get anywhere near halo 3. halo 3s multiplayer is so much more indepth than cod4 could ever wish to be. nevertheless, i will say its pretty fun at least.
i don't wanna sound like a cow (halo is my fav. series and i own all three consoles) but if guerilla pulls kz2 off, it could be like what halo was for the xbox.elite_ferns1
i have no doubt that killzone 2 will sell in the millions, but we shall see when it comes down to it whether it has that staying power that halo or goldeneye did.
I really can't think of a game that will do that this gen. No doubt there will be some but i just can't think of any. When goldeneye and halo came out I wasn't a hardcore gamer but i knew all about them so i agree with you there. If i had to choose id probably say Gears of War 2 since the first one was great and everyone seems to knows about it. I also think MGS4 may have a massive effect on both hardcore and casual gamers aswell since the MGS series is pritty big and always seem to deliver great gameplay in my opinion. superiorNilly
MGS4 is a great game and all but i don't think it appeals to casuals that much. Same for halo 3 And the only reason people know about gears of war is because of all the commercials for it. I think SSBB will be more casual friendly because you can play it with your friends and at parties. and of course more casuals own the wii.

guerilla has made nothing but crap so far, i would be very surprised if they could even get AA for kz2. shellshock nam and killzone were 2 of the worst shooters last gen, if not the worst.

CoD4 will look shoddy in the face of Halo 3. CoD4 does nothing new for the series, or even gaming as a whole.
i would have to agree with that. cod4 adds almost nothing to the multiplayer in comparison with previous installments, its a giant gay campfest for half the people so if you do team objective there is almost nothing to do half the time unless you happen to run across someone hiding. and theres no new features. im willing to bet the single player is exactly like 2 and 3, only in a modern setting

My bad, in terms ofme getting ahead of myself. CoD4 does nothing new for gameing. MY BAD.
Why? Because it has simply copied features that we've had in gaming for years now. It doesn't advance the shooter genre in any way. Don't just say "I haven't played it yet", please. Because you haven't either.

I'm content.we already have one. mario kart ds there are always tons of games to be found. my favorite portable mulitplayer game ever with a great online community!
i think that if brawl is online it could do it or if they release a cross platform shooter. (something i would love to see)
heck the pc already has one this gen. WOW. look at how many poeple are playing that game still.

I've heard so many mixed messages from people in the CoD4 beta. It's either the best multiplayer experience ever or a huge disappointment that doesn't do anything better than CoD2. Really seems like a love-it or hate-it game.

its not that its bad, cause it isnt. its actually pretty fun. however, in comparison to halo 3, its as if cod4 has done absolutely nothing to add to the multiplayer. also, you go up in rank like a monster on cod4, maybe way too much. hopefully they tone that down a bit. i got to level 16 in 3 hours. in 3 hours in halo 3 i barely got anywhere. makes me want to play it longer to get higher up, but when you can max out in a week, it loses luster.
that captures the hardcore, and the casuals, such as halo, or back on the n64, it was goldeneye. millions upon millions buy the game, and the community thrives for years. we already know halo 3 will do this, so lets try to guess other games that will capture the success of the halo series. thats right, this is the time to hype your favorites and explain why it will be the game that enthralls millions.xboxrox11
Halo sales (5 million) weren't that great (compared to other 'greatest selling' games). A lot of games sold a lot more. Halo2 was a little better (8 million), but again, there are a lot of games that outsold Halo2 last generation. Everyone just thinks Halo sold amazingly well becuase of all the media hype and media coverage of morons camping out. If you want to pick a game from last generation that captured everyone, go with a GT or a GTA title. GTA3: 11 million. GTA: San Andreas: 12 million. GTA Vice City: 13 million (that's Halo and Halo2 combined. All 4 Gran Turismo's beat out Halo2 as well, ranging from 8.5 to 11 million each. Why does everyone always act like Halo was the greatest selling thing ever? Individually, Halo2 is not in the top 20 selling console games. As a franchise, so far, Halo barely makes 40th. Halo3 will bring this up, but a lot of those other franchises will have new games as well. I don't see it getting (and staying) up more than mid-20s.

i guess you havnt played killzone:liberation, AAA at ign and AA at gamespot. and didnt you hear? bungie made a A game before they made halo!! yes, its possible
If Brawl has online, its comuuntity will live longer then any game before it. It will be better then Goldeneye, Halo 2 and Halo 3. Please note, I'm looking very much foward to Halo 3, it it my 3rd most wanted game, but I think Brawl can pull it off.Grodus5
me and my friends would stay up all night playing melee, all the time. i think brawl could definitely do it.
Mario Galaxy or SSBB. I don't know anyone, casual or hardcore who hasn't at least played a Mario game once. Smash Bros because every person who has ever owned a console in their life has heard of this game, casual or hardcore once again.

Wow... :| I don't know what to say.
Crysis could be one of those games, but its technical demands will hurt it too much for it to become truly mainstream.

Hey buddy go play liberation or did you forget about that game, which has improved since reviewed with addition of infrastructure for online and a 5th chapter thus taking care of the complaints that gs made. thank you, move along you ignorant fool*drool* lol i will probably get flamed to hell for this, but i think haze can potentially be a sleeper hit. a lot of people are pretty meh towards it, but i think its gonna be one of those games once people try it they will love it. free radical knows what they are at. speaking of which, a new time splitters with online multiplayer would be pretty huge to id say.DIABLO 3
I can only dream
