[QUOTE="fuzzysquash"][QUOTE="Thompsonwhore"] There's a difference between people who buy a system because of a particular title and games that tilts the opinion of a console in a more favoring position in the publics mind because of it's reception and success.
Such as Metal Gear Solid 4. Now, this is just hypothetical, of course. But let's say that it does tremendously well, it's more likely people who were on the fence before who will buy PS3's when the game comes out because of how well received it was, rather it because of them being fans of the game.

em....perhaps, but I think you're walking a fine line there.
Whether they're preexisting Halo fans or soon-to-be Halo fans isn't really important. The point of my thread remains: Halo 3 has proven itself as a system seller, and there are still millions of gamers out there who want the game but don't have 360's right now.
I'm not talking about whether they're fans of the game or not. I'm not even talking about whether they will enjoy the game or not.
I'm saying it's not that Halo 3 is such a good game that's giving it and the 360 such great sales, it's the media attention, the hype, the word of mouth that's doing it.
Your argument is that people are buying Halo 3 because they're fans of it. I'm saying that people are buying Halo 3 because of the hype; regardless of whether it lives up to it or not.
you're right about the hype factor, the fans were the ones in line at midnight. For example, at my company, there are 200 employees. Out of those 200, I'd say at least 45 % have 360's. Each person that has a 360 bought Halo3. The Halo3 conversation alone is enough to make you want to buy a system so you can play with your friends online. I've had that game since launch and stil havent gone through the campaign. Thats the wierd success of halo, the multiplayer alone is enough to lure people in.
