it supposedly cannot pump out high quality visuals. If that is true, then how is it that a supposedly less powerful Gamecbe was able to do RE Remake, RE 0 and RE 4 as well as Eternal Darkness, Rogue Leader and some others. Imo, the Wii can do these types of games with ease and maybe more!!Nintendo simply needs to get on their devs and raise the expectation level!!! Id be wiling to bet that the Wii could do Halo 2, Perfect Dark Zero and some oter high profile games!! Your thoughts?kungfuchaos
Look, no matter how hard you wish for it the Wii will never have good graphics. It is a generation behind and you need to get over it.
I'd be more concerned that you can count the decent 3rd party Wii titles on half a hand.

The Wii could do Halo 2 since that was an Xbox game. The Wii is not powerful enough to pull of most 360/PS3 games' visuals.
However, that does not mean it cannot have great games.
And for the record, the GameCube was more powerful than the PS2.

Come on now, you really had to work on that list and by any measure it's pretty poor...but i'll conceed that half a hand was off, one whole hand is plenty though.
The Wii is roughly 1.5 times more powerful than the GameCube.
Most Wii game's look dated with their visuals, however, games like Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy still impress visually and gameplay wise.
Haziqonfire
Oh come on, they impress visually, for games on the Wii, but put them next to anything else and barring the artwork they are not in any way technically impressive.

I was playing 360 games for a full year by the time I got my Wii... and when I first put in Twilight Princess I threw up a little bit in my mouth....
I know it was developed for the GC, so I wasn't expecting alot.... but after playing games in HD on my 360, and then switching to the Wii, it was difficult to ignore the poor visuals and focus solely on gameplay.
but, Zelda: TP aside..... even Nintendos best looking game, Mario, is ugly by comparison.... I mean how much more could it have cost Nintendo to make their system able to display 720p.... I don't need more polygons or fancier lighting.... but the low resolution makes me angry.... I wants me Mario & Zelda in HD, dangit!
I would never say that good graphics are meaningless, but let's keep things in perspective. The Wii is a good system with some true innovation and some of the best games on any platform. It lacks the library of the others, but it has it's own inimitable strengths.

ZOMG! I loved Bubble Bobble. My mom, of all non-gamer people, owned so hard at that game. That and Dr. Mario were the only two games I ever saw her play. :D

youre into graphics and you dont even know it. if you think the game looks ugly, compared to hd graphical game, then maybe you are truly into graphics.I was playing 360 games for a full year by the time I got my Wii... and when I first put in Twilight Princess I threw up a little bit in my mouth....

I laughed at this at first, but then realized how sad that is. A game actually 'made you throw up in your mouth?'. So if you see any classic game you are going to get queezy?
How much more would it cost to display 720p? Ask MS or Sony. I love how everyone wants Nintendo to have released the 'ultimate' system along with mass marketing brand new controls. The same company that had a 3rd place system last gen.
I totally understands N's position after last gen. They realized competing graphic wise with the other 2 would just be like smashing your head against the wall, so they took a different route.
But people don't seem to understand that. But not even Sony or MS understood that. That's why it took everyone by surprise, even N.
Wii has inferior graphics against 360 and PS3. EVERYONE knows this. Realize it and get over it. You don't need the ultimate graphics for great games. GOY SMG proves this. Now that Wii has established a massive base, N can afford to upgrade the graphics next gen.
its simple. the people that bag on the Wii dont realize that its doing something different than the norm. they just cant comprehend that fact
the idea of a console with games that doesnt appeal to them is blasphemy. how dare people have different tastes in games...
The funny thing is that some f the biggest an:roll:d best games on both the 360 and PS3 dont even un at 720p..i.e. CoD 4, GTA IV and Halo 3 just to name a few. But yet the Wii gets crucified for less than HD visuals. Ive seen Metroid Prime, SSBB, SMG and others on the Wii. It is a fully capable system in the right hands!!kungfuchaos
Yeah and even Metal Gear Movie 4 doen't even run at 720p, so much for "Teh Power of teh Cell!!!"
Btw, All Wii games output at 480p when all games for the 360/Ps3 above output at 640p that's roughly 160 pixels in difference, HUGE diference I see...:roll:
I bash it because of it's outrageous price tag. It cost $280 (here in Canada) while a premium 360 is just $350, the difference in price is one 360 game. This is crazy considering the 360 costs hundreds more to manufacture and is hundreds of times more powerful. And as much as you might not like it, the Wii is just a SLIGHTLY beefed up GameCube, with a motion sensor. I doubt it even costs $150 to manufacture, which is why Nintendo is getting such a huge profit from it.UssjTrunks
As far as I know, Nintendo is making an eight dollar profit on each Wii sold. I'll have to find a source, but this is what I have for now. Edit: Seems I was wrong, here are the numbers.
Got it.
While Nintendo has not disclosed exactly how much it costs them to make the Wii console, a new report in the Financial Times cites Nikko Citigroup analyst Soichiro Fukuda who estimates that Nintendo's gross profit per console is 1,500 yen in Japan, 5,600 yen in the U.S. and 8,500 yen in Europe. That equates to about $13, $49 and $74, respectively. Source
Before you start saying that Nintendo is being unfair to North Americans or Europeans, keep in mind two things.
One. In North America and Europe, the Wii comes with a free game, Wii Sports.
Two. The Wii is manufactured in Japan, so shipping costs to Japan are very low. It costs Nintendo far more money to ship consoles to North America or Europe.
