first, i'm not into Halo that much, good games but never played them much i'm not really into too many FPS that focus on online, so blah blah don't flame me
but everyone talks about Sony having a halo killer, blah. now, i don't think anything can "Kill" something as popular as Halo, esspecially since Halo pretty much made the original Xbox relevant, without it , well we don't know how the Xbox would've done without it
but wouldn't the closest thing to a halo "killer" amongst FPS be COD4: Modern Warfare? I mean cod4 sold more than halo 3 (albeit yes on 3 platforms) was praised for its gameplay and came up in a lot more GOTY discussions in 2007 then Halo3 , i believe even COD4 won the gamespot users choice of GOTY in 2007 while Super Mario Galaxy won the editors choice
i remember all the build up to halo 3, and i worked that night at gamecrazy, it was insane. but then COD4 came out and while yes, of course halo 3 was still selling very very very well and still had a great online community, it seemed like more people were impressed with COD4, and that alot of ppl at that time left halo for a while for COD4.
I mean, to be fair halo 3 was a sequel and most ppl expected most of what they got, good game, etc. but with COD4 it was the first COD in modern times, and had a very good online setup, maybe due to IW developing it (as it'd been a while since they'd made COD since 2 in 2005) and its new setting (non-science fiction setting could've attracted more buyers who are very pro-military i dunno i know alot of ppl who looked into for those very reasons) so maybe halo was at a disadvantage there
but what i'm trying to say is if anything was ever to "kill" halo as the "biggest" FPS on consoles, wouldn't COD4 have done it or done it to the most that a FPS on consoles could do??
thoughts, please i'm not trying to start a COD v Halo flame war or nothing, just speculating
