Instead of uploading a Sony press release verbatim like it's actual news, let's look at all the PS3-selling online stores and see who's got some left. This is a proper investigation!

  • HMV: Yes
  • AMAZON: Yes
  • PLAY: Yes
  • GAME: Yes
  • GAMESTATION: Yes
  • WOOLWORTHS: Yes
  • ARGOS: Yes
  • TOYS R US: Yes

And so it goes on. This is completely unbelievable. Xbox 360 and Wii sold out in minutes - a week into the PS3 campaign EVERYONE still has piles left. This is total public humiliation for Sony.

Even better, poor old Play.com is selling so few PS3s it's now started giving away Adam Sandler's 'Click' on Blu-ray with its bundles. Sales going well then, Play? Maybe if we wait another week we'll get a free Samsung LCD telly?

This is a graph we made to illustrate the facts, like Al Gore did in that documentary about the sun exploding. People believe graphs

I agree! The one thing Sony got right is getting the production down perfect! This has to be the first time ever that such a hot system was launched that its actually AVAILABLE! Nintendo and XBOX fails in this department. 360 wasn't available until March 2006 (probably even April) and Wii can't be found anywhere! They should both take a page from the Sony playbook and learn how to properly manufacture a system and make it available! There is no other explanation why PS3's can be found whereever they are sold.

Wait , a website that sells blu-ray movies is giving one away for free with the ps3 ? That makes no business sense.

Lol you're in denial. Nintendo is now making 1 million units/month. Since Sony has sold about 1,5 million PS3 and if they produce as many units as Nintendo does, wouldn't we be flooded by PS3s now?

Just to point out some things I've noticed... PS3 has been out long enough that I believe Sony has started manufacturing the PS3 at the same rate as they are selling. We should all start seeing PS3's available now because they are matching demand. No... that doesn't mean demand is low. It just means that they've ramped up production to keep the supply fluid.

I also think, that come tax return time, that many will go out and buy a PS3. I usually bought my new game system with a tax return. I did it with PS2 and I did it with PSP. Many people will buy a PS3 with their tax return.

Lastly, your graph is dumb. Why? Because the PS3 isn't out yet in EU. That's why PS3 has Zero market share there. You're arguing a moot point. Why would a system that has Zero consoles available to a population be anywhere on the graph? Your graph fails.

PS3 pre-orders aren't sold out yet? Wow. The Wii's pre-orders were gone in about 3 days in my local store. I went there as soon as I got the e-mail and I was already number 5 on the list

Does everyone realize that Sony is shipping over 1 million units to Europe and over 220k to the UK? The UK is getting more then North America got at launch with less then 1/5 the population of North America. Europe in total is getting about 4 times as many units as Japan and North America got combined at launch.

Second PS3 are only being sold in US and Japan............the PAL areas in March...........

If you are going to bash something don't make yourself sound like a fanboy!

Yea, alot are missing that. And it is a REALLY good move by Sony. Initial demand in the US was ridicules, days long lines and almost no systems. They sold out at first......until the e-bayers realized they were not selling and started to return them. The demand crashed and now they sit on the shelves. Moving, but not at the same rate as the Wii. So, why not save up some systems and cash in on the initial rush in a new market?

This man has been everywhere, in every store on the planet. He didn't just link to a handful of stores because he knows it would be stupid to base the status on PS3 availability in every store it's sold on a few linked online stores, he actually visited every store individually. Also, his chart with the wavy lines proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that, in the UK, the PS3 is a much smaller, flat red line. How can you argue with that chart? You can't. First of all, it's a chart. Second of all, it's color coded.

That's why this thread is so credible, and that's why System Wars is so not a waste of time.

When demand drops off, supplies pile up. And sure people want it, but not at it's current price point. Maybe if it were $450 for the good one, it would outsell the 360 by a big maragin (even though it's not as feature rich) based on brand loyalty and name recognition. But all the brand loyalty can't make gamers sacrafice a months rent.

I was strolling around Fry's Electronics here in San Jose on Sunday, and it was packed the purchase was well beyond the alotted queue.  Went to VG section and the PS3 was for sale...they must have had at least 30 systems pile high on the floor. I grabbed a box to check if they were actual systems inside ..and they were.  Wii's no were to be found, maybe 4 -10 360's premium and cores.  This is a common site here in the bay area. I always see the same thing in most retailers, Target, walmart, bestbuy etc. There are always ps3 available, a couple more 360's and no wii's. Either Sony's supply line is really strong all of a sudden...even with an upcoming european launch...or they are just arent selling.

If they're so unwanted, there's a quick solution: just send them to me! PS3s are definately still wanted, try finding one in Canada, it won't happen.

And YET...get this...and yet, you have to do all sorts of:  hunting, tactics, maneuvering, weedling, camping out, sacrificing of firstborns(?), catch a leprechaun(??), to find the "crappy Kidtendo Wiiwii."

I went to 3 stores yesterday, 2 in Lynnhaven Mall in VA(EBgames and Gamestop) and the NAS Oceana NEX, all 3 of them had alot of stock of PS3's, "well, they are meeting the demand" you're going to say, sure they are, but when the demand is low, they should be able to meet it. I asked EBGames, "How hard is it to keep Wii's in stock?" They replied "We can't.", than I asked "What about PS3's?" they replied "We have had consistant stock of PS3's for quite some time now."

Take that how you want, but the fact is, you can keep stock of something with low demand(PS3), but you cannot keep stock of something with extremely high demand.(Wii)

PS3 pre-orders aren't sold out yet? Wow. The Wii's pre-orders were gone in about 3 days in my local store. I went there as soon as I got the e-mail and I was already number 5 on the listmighty_shark
Isn't the PS3 the most pre-ordered system in the UK?

Theres alot of shadow around all of that, apparently, the source that said the PS3 had massive pre-orders, couldn't pull up any solid evidence on those numbers.

Lol you're in denial. Nintendo is now making 1 million units/month. Since Sony has sold about 1,5 million PS3 and if they produce as many units as Nintendo does, wouldn't we be flooded by PS3s now?

PS3 is getting OWNED by Nintendo in Sales, maybe Sony should learn how to make good games from the folks at Nintendo
