I'm curious what system wars thinks of Fallout 3.

Did you play Fallout 1 and 2? If so, do you think it will be a worthy sequel?

If you have not played Fallout 1 and 2, what's your opinion on Fallout 3?

My opinion is: this will be a dumbed down Oblivion with guns. The moment I read it was going to PS3 and 360, the last shred of hope I had left died. No doubt it can be an enjoyable game, but worthy of bearing the Fallout name? Not likely... :(

Ehh, I wish they were making TESV instead, that's all I have to say.

Depends.  If they stick to the tired old boring turned based garbage of yesterday then it will most likely suck an suck royally.  If they make it more of a first person experience with a more action oriented battle system it could be awesome.

Although it has the potential to fail horribly, I'm looking forward to it. I like the setting so much.

I agree, they should keep The Elder Scrolls in The Elder Scrolls. It's not right for Fallout...

Dear God, no. I don't want an Oblivion clone.

IMHO, the strength of Fallout lied in the turn based-gameplay. It made the game and gameplay deeper than any FPS could ever be.

The first two rocked so I am looking forward to this one...but nothing will beat the first fall out.

Yes, I played the original Fallouts. Fallout is my 2nd favourite game of all time. And no, there is absolutely no way that this will be a worthy sequel, no way whatsoever. Until gameplay footage is shown I will continue to stand by the statement that this will be Oblivion with guns. That's where all the signs are pointing towards anyway...

They should be keeping it turnbased.  Turnbased is the basis of Paper and pen.  You can't roleplay when you can go outside the box and make the game realtime FPS.  There's no chance to critical miss in FPS.

Oblivion with guns, Oblivion with guns, Oblivion with guns, Oblivion with guns, whine Oblivion with guns, Oblivion with guns, whine whine Oblivion with guns, whine whine whine.

We haven't even SEEN the game. Could people be a little bit more... hopeful about this? Beth has done more than Oblivion, including some awesome non-FPS rpgs.

And in any case, a first person RPG in the fallout universe could be great. I for one can accept some change as long as the quality is great, and the things that made Fallout Fallout are intact (and no, Action Points are hardly it).

I am playing Fallout 2 right now and as Tycho on Penny Arcade said perfectly, to me Fallout is great because of the universe and backstory, not the combat.  The combat was great back in '98 or '99 but this is 2007.  I would like combat to feel more like STALKER with RPG elements (increase accuracy, speed, accuracy while moving, etc).  In essence I am saying I want to be like a 1st person or 3rd person shooter.

My biggest fear (unlike the purist fans, who fear upgraded combat) is this game being made for the 360 or PS3 first rather than the PC.  I fear Bethesda will in some way bludgeon what should be a deep RPG game into Oblivion with its level scaling and crappy inventory system.

As someone who thinks Fallout 1&2 are the greatest games ever, I can say I don't think Bethesda will be able to make a proper sequel to them. As much as I try to stay optimistic, Oblivion was just too alarmingly bad as a RPG that I have a hard time believing they would be able to improve enough to make a game worthy the fallout name.

Bethesada does more than ES you know. And btw, you shoudl go to the ES sometimes. They said that they have plans to make the fifth back to its roots. Itll still be actiony like oblvion but itll have the depth of morrowind

I know they do more than ES... For example "amazing" Star Trek games. And tell me one Bethesda game that actually has good dialogue. It's not that I didn't like Oblivion, it was a perfectly competent action adventure, but a game like fallout shouldn't fall in the hands of a developer that hasn't made a "true" rpg for a long time.

I'm really excited to see what Bethesda does with it. The trailer had great atmosphere to it. Only problem is there's a good chance they'll dumb it down to appease console gamers and worst case scenario make it a shooter. I bet it will be good regardless of what happens though and at least worth playing.

I have a mixed reaction to this game. I am happy to see that the Fallout universe will continue to be expanded upon, but at the same time I do not really want to play another FPS game I would rather have it in the normal view. That said there is still no official confirmation that it will take place in the first person perspective however there is a lot of evidence that points in that direction. I think that it will be a worthy addition to Fallout, but I do not think that it should be called Fallout 3 if it is a FPSRPG.

bethesda is just a company you know... they have diff devs that make each game and dont expect all bethesda franchises to be the same

all the devs of fallout 3 are die-hard fans of the fallout series and they said that they will stay true to the fallout sequel so it wouldnt be expected to be a first-person post-apocaliptic rpg as we already have stalker

"Oblivion with guns"

I love Oblivion...but that statement makes me want to throw up.  Unfortunately, there's no way they will keep this turn-based, even though they should.  Consolers would be playing and be like, "What the balls is this?"

Fallout 1 and 2 were incredibly good.  I just hope Fallout 3 isn't dumbed down so it can be ported over to consoles.

I have Fallout 2 and I really love it. From what I've seen in the pictures and trailers, they have really captured Fallout's atmosphere. I'm certain Fallout 3 will be awesome.
