Listen, I love Fallout 3. Despite the fact that I don't own it anymore (long story, lazy fingers) I still got a lot of hands-on time with the game. It has an amazing atmosphere that feels both helpless and desolate, while still holding it's own personal charm. Exploring one of the many skeletons of architecture can be down right oppressive. Then, all of a sudden -

BOOM!

Someone moves.

The tension is snapped. The atmosphere is rendered flat. The believability of the world is broken once you see the characters in the game start moving like a robot in need of some oil. The scariest thing in Fallout aren't the radioactive mutants, it's the friendly civilians who have decided to only move one hand in the same direction while talking to you. It's a terrifying sight. Just when you think you might scream in terror, you decide to zoom out into 3rd person. Oh no.

Awesome, great game. Horrible, nasty animations. Sorry, I needed to vent.

Bethesda games rule, but Morrowind and Oblivion had pretty bad animations so did you really expect them to be different in F3?

it's been an issue with Bethesda's games for as long as I can remember, and they're things that can strangely be overlooked with ease.

Everything else, however, delivers.

Agreed, in a lesser game the animations would be a huge issue, but with Beth, they get so many things right the poor animations are easily overlooked.

Still havnt picked up F3 however, gonna hang on for the NXE and go for a full install when i get it.

Yes actually. After so many tries you would expect that.

The funny thing about Fallout 3 is that alot of the animations are recycled directly from Oblivion. Nowhere is this more apparent than the moment you first encounter an enemy wielding a melee weapon. The stance with the side carrying the weapon away from you and the other side facing you as if the enemy was supposed to be carrying a shield is identical to the animations in Oblivion.

True, it is an amazing game and still haven't gotten too into it (dunno why I bought it the same day I bought Fable II...), but it is an amazing game.

But have you played Oblivion? It is EXACTLY like that. Nothing is different at all. Clunky robots is the best way to describe the character animations.

But I try not to let that get in the way

If that's the case, you haven't played Two Worlds. You lucky, lucky man. Anyways, you don't own it anymore? But it just came out...

To me, this is minor in the grand scheme of things. I have touched only the surface of Fallout 3, this game is going to be epic.

I will admit that the movements are not the best, and it is frustrating at some points.

Hmm, I actually haven't noticed any of that, I probably haven't been paying too much attention to it. Even so, it's understandable, the game is very big, and the time they started it, Oblivion was barely coming out, so this game is still based on older tech, they did an incredible job for how big of a game it is.

i hate when you go into V.A.T.S. and then you see the person sliding on the floor when you are shooting, like not walking sliding asthough the floor is covered in a thick oil. but the animations are no better then oblivions so i can deal with it, every game has its animation flaws i get used to it

I agree. Mario 64 has a better 3rd person mode than this and that game is over a decade old now. I why can't he climb over anything taller than 1 foot?

I didn't think the wonky jumping/climbing was that bad at first, but after playing Mirror's Edge I keep getting made that my guy seems to get defeated by a 6 inch rock.

With the years they've had to improve it? Once again, YES.

yea, Bethesda really needs to learn how to animate better.

I only use 3d person mode to check out my character....and nothing else. I mean damn....it looks like your character is just gliding or something when in 3d p mode
