Lol at all the Bethesda hate.

There is no sticky so I might as well create a new thread, especially that I'll probably be the only System Warrior to be this vocal in my disappointment.
I will sum um the root cause of my disappointment in just one line:
THE SAME FUCKING ANCIENT ENGINE WITH THE SAME FUCKING LIMITATIONS
[EDIT: OH, WELL AND THEN THERE'S THIS]:
THE SAME CLICHED POST-WAR REACTIONARY VIBE REFERENCING BEATNIK ERA - SUCH A CLICHE :(
And I don't even have graphics in mind when I refer to the engine.
The ENTIRE concept of the Fallout series is that it's a post-apocalyptic game with a post war twist. You expected them to change the entire concept of the franchise? AND you think that your complaint is actually legitimate? lol. Do you expect the next Elder Scrolls game to be set in Tokyo in the year 3000?
What an idiot.

Please, no. I meant the whole beatnik vibe of 1950s - INCLUDING MUSIC - shoehorned into the game again, after 2007's BioShock we have seen an invasion of this trope. Is that the only "cool" vibe that could be applied to a post-apocalyptic setting? Neither Fallout 1 nor Fallout 2 had this cookie-cutter shit.
@Salt_The_Fries:
Lol wtf...that IS fallout its wat i look forward to.
Bioshock as well
Out of all the other generic shit out you pick two franchises? Of which we havent seen a game in years!!
If they change this theme vibe and music i wont want it and many others im sure
Game looks lovely and I can't wait to explore it, I'll take a richly detailed world that looks a little worse over a high gloss finish masking over the fact there's **** all to do.
Still has shit animations, god couldn't even get a competent dev team the thousandth fucking time, Bethesda? Even knowing this, give it to Obsidian. New Vegas shit all over FO3. Granted I enjoyed FO3 is was a shallow puddle compared to NV.
Ya engine's clearly been improved but damn is it lagging behind others, and very much so. Didn't like the last two do that pip boy bullshit, but I'm more worried about this one having horrible game breaking mission glitches along with horrible character animations due, due to this old janky engine they insist on using. If anything the fact that engine and it's gameplay and movement style being used again for such a large open world game have me less inclined to even want to try it out. Kind of sick of how Bethesda games feel when you play them.
Looks fine. Sure, doesn't look like anything that couldn't be done last gen but neither does Bloodborne and people (understandably) have nothing but praise for that game.
To be honest, most games are nice to look at these days (most games looked nice last gen too) and I think people should appreciate that. On the other hand, I do understand when you drop cash on a new console, you're expecting to see a substantial visual upgrade. And there are games that clearly look noticeably more impressive than last gen. The problem is that they seem to be bad (The Order, Ryse, DriveClub, Killzone SF, AC reshash #12849049384) or middle of the road (Infamous SS). I'm sure the gen will hit a point where greatness and great visuals will go hand in hand tho; this seems to be the case with The Witcher 3.
Fallout 3 was my introduction to the Fallout franchise, so I couldn't give two shits if it didn't have a ton in common with the first two games.
There's Fallout 1 & 2 the classical, isometric RPG's from the late 90's....and there's the award winning, open world RPG/FPS that Fallout has become over the last 7-8 years.
I prefer the latter, but that's just me.
Anyway, the desert of New Vegas was a fucking snooze fest compared to D.C.
You go long periods of that game just trekking through open, barren desert and fighting the occasional radscorpion, ant, or gecko. Fallout 3 was much more action packed throughout the heart of the capital and even though it was also repetitive with the enemies (Raiders/Super Mutants/Ghouls) I'd still rather be fighting humans/humanoids instead of pretending I'm the fucking Orkin man 80% of the time.
Not to mention that Fallout 3 just had way more of an apocalyptic look and feel to it. It was eerie as hell. New Vegas just looked like a regular desert until you stumbled upon some 5 foot ant.
Peasant chose Fallout 2 screenshot which happens to take place in New Reno and such. Overall, such stylistic is not the main feature of Fallout 1 and 2 if you consider them as a whole. ESPECIALLY NOT FALLOUT 1, which to me is the quintessence of Fallout. I wonder if you have even played Fallout 1...
Meh.
The difference is proportion and directness of homage to that particular beatnik era. Fallout 3 is just fucking unsubtle and transplants graphical themes directly in.

@Salt_The_Fries: Ummm.....you do realize that vibe has been in the series since the first game right? Which came out in 1997, well before Bioshock was even thought of.
What part of the "beatnik" you didn't understand? In Fallout 1 and 2 there wasn't Django Reinhardt-esque or 1940s/1950s vocal music - very prominent in the trailer and already done to death in BioShock. I'm tired of this trope.

New Reno =/= the whole Fallout
@Salt_The_Fries: It wasnt as noticeable likely due to limitations on every possible aspect, including budget. Stop crying about stuff that doesnt even make sense.
I'd understand if you cried about the graphics. But a vibe that has been very much present since 97? lol just lol.

Which is nowhere to be seen in the main Fallout 1 game :/
If you say so.
Fallout 3 is CLEARLY a rip-off from BioShock. Done in just 1 year. Explains the bugs and all. Makes sense.
/s
I've never said it is a rip-off of BioShock!!!
I've just clearly expressed that THIS TROPE WAS STALE BACK THAT AND BY NOW IS NOW DONE TO DEATH.
I'm tired of the trope. I wish they came up with a different representation. And it's not the graphic style which pissed me off in the trailer, but another vocal song.
@Salt_The_Fries: Cool. You're tired of something that I can garantee you simply wasnt more prominent since 97 due to budget limitations (none of these songs are exactly free you know).
Perhaps just turn off the radios and listen to the (excellent) score for the game? That seems like it would solve your issue.

Done to death? Give us examples outside BioShock and Fallout, because as of right now you're bitching just to bitch.
@drinkerofjuice:
We can do without the trash talk......
Lulz, that's trash talk to you?
I watched the trailer a few times now and I can't be that critical. Sure it would be nice to have the butter smooth animations but the experience this game will give me is worth the wait and scarifice.
As long as V.A.T.S. still has all the blood and gore, in good, lol.
So who is going to be my new Mr. Tenpenny and receive a .357 round to the skull.
@drinkerofjuice:
Just the last part..... that was uncalled for.
The creation of this thread was uncalled for. I'd agree with you if Salt wasn't being so salty, but I'm just merely pointing out what he was doing and what he tends to do. He complains like a child, and his complaints sometimes have no basis. This is one of those moments. He bitches about the post-war 50s vibe being done to death when:
A. That's what Fallout has been about since its inception
&
B. It hasn't been done to death
@drinkerofjuice:
Obviously I'm biased with Fallout being an RPG and all but he totally has a basis.... lets not forget this is Bethesda we are talking about here..... they do well even when their games are broken, they literally have absolutely no reason to get their act together.

For example The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.

Did you not read my post? Did you see me refer to what state Bethesda ships their titles in any way?
For example The Bureau: XCOM Declassified.
Ah yes, a game I'm pretty sure almost everyone forgot even existed. That's three altogether. Three IPs within a span of almost 20 years. That's "done to death" to you?
One of the things that's pissing me off is some of these people saying that VATS should be eliminated from the game because it makes combat "too easy".
Well, here's the solution you fucking dumb-dumbs...just don't use it!
Fo1, Fo2 & NV are among the most non-linear games that were ever released. Sure there are some goals, and hand placed location, but, the way you fit into that story is entirelly up to you, so is the fate of entire communities and your relationship with them. Which is the total opposite of Fallout 3 in which your own agency is constantly denied, by the gameworld who always return to status quo, and the characters who still proceed with their linear quest-line no matter your previous actions. You are stuck in what you were supposed to do and fail to create new meaningfull stories through your actions.
That's not even touching on Bethesda's lore rape, terrribad writing and complete lack of understanding about how a Fallout game should be and feel..
And here we go again with Toddler and his thugs...
The graphics look fine to me.. as long as theyre better than f03 im cool with it. BUT the animations need some work.

E-fucking-xactly
Emil Pagliarulo (lead designer)
That's also the writer of Fallout 3.
Jesus ****. The story is going to be very bad. And no wonder the PC is now Voiced and male only. Expect it to be a straight up action shooter with maybe 3-4 skills and 1 or 2 branching "paths". Not a RPG.
I don't care about all of this nit-picky BS. I care about one thing: Will the game be fun? I had, more or less, excellent experiences with Fo3 and New Vegas (minus the NV bugs), and my experience isn't tainted by Fallout 1 and 2.

Good luck trying to convince anyone that Fallout 4 isn't going to be great. It's clearly not working out for you yet.

Well you can only ride on hype for so long until people see how shit it is.

"But but... you can skip like half the story if you visit your father."
I can hear the Bethesda apologists say.
I still remember when Some people were hostile too me half the game later in Fallout 2 because I had a slaver tatoo being effectively denied quests. And holy crap, did they really make Emil Pagliarulo the lead designer?!? His work in Fallout 3 was some of the worst writing I have ever seen. That guy should have been barred from ever getting involved with a game again, not become the lead designer for one of the most prominent RPG franchises out there.
