Well, I got my PC Gamer (US) Magazine the other day and I flipped open to their cover-story on Far Cry 2. From the sounds of it Ubisoft really seems very focused on creating a quality PC game (It seems to be a PC exclusive as they haven't announced any plans to port it to consoles). According to the article, Ubisoft hand picked developers from all their studios to come work on Far Cry 2 back in 2005 (when Crytek left Ubisoft), and they started thinking about what would make the best possible game. They decided that the introduction of the Trigens was the only bad part in Far Cry and decided that Far Cry 2 needed to be a more realistic game. Then they decided that putting it in Africa would allow them to maintain the exotic feel of Far Cry. Then the article starts to delve into the story and says that Far Cry 2 has absolutely nothing to do with island or Jake, but is rather a completely different story set in the same world. They explain that the game starts out with you picking your character from 12 seperate mercenaries, and that all the ones you don't pick will be in the story as your "buddies." Your mission is to assassinate a gun dealer that is selling weapons to two fighting War Lords.

Then the article delves into some of the gameplay elements and explains that you are basically set in the game world (two areas of 12 square miles) and allowed to play as you wish. You get missions and objectives as you go along and you can choose to side with either of the two War Lords (or even both if you want to risk it). Your "buddies" will be doing the same thing and throughout the game you can team up with them or get ideas from them as you wish. According to the article they are ruthless, bloodthirsty mercenaries that are really bad people. The article continues by explaining that bodies are injured realistically meaning thatyou can disable people by shooting them in the arms, legs or chest and medics will need to tend to them in order to heal them. They explained that you could technically take outa few of the medics by wounding someone, and then hiding with a sniper waiting for a medic to come by and try to heal the person, only to pick the medic off. Then, the article explains the new "infamy" system. This system is what effects your relationships with the warlords. The article explains that you can always come at an objective in the standard run and gun method, but if you want to get extra "infamy" you can shoot out guys legs, kill the medics, and then torch the people with a flamethrower. Depending on how much "infamy" you have your missions(from the warlords)will be different and pay different amounts of money that you can use to spend in towns for new weapons. Apparently, as you weapons get more and more use they will get more likely to jam so you will need to replace them often.

Finally, the articleexplains the graphics and environmentalelements that will effect the gameplay experience. According to the article sometimes the hot sun will cause fires in the tall savahhna grasses that will destroy anything in their path(including trees that will catch fire and burn down. Limbs will break offas the tree gets charred making it more realistic). Everything in the environment is destructible. According to PC Gamer, the game will hold up graphically as well in 2008as Far Cry PC did in 2004.

Overall, the article got me fairly excited for this game, although I am still skeptical because Ubisoft does not have an amazing history with PC games.

I read a little about it this morning, sounds promising. I was not really impressed by the graphics though.

Is Ubisoft developing this, publishing it, or is it Crytek with EA publishing?

Is it at least using CryEngine 2?

Ubisoft was developing it last I heard..so I haven't really taken interest..

Nah Ubisoft and exclusive don't go hand in hand. I am sure if the game is good ubisoft will make some spinoffs for it to milk console gamers.

On topic , Looks really good, much better than what I thought when I first heard Ubisoft is making it. Hope they are successfully able to make sequel worthy of Far Cry

Quality of Ubisoft games tend to be up and down. I wish Crytek was working on the sequel.

You are probably right. But fully destructable massive environments are very difficult to be made on consoles because of RAM limitations. So, the game will be different on the consoles.

Meh, FarCry was a good game, but to me Crysis is the true successor of it. And I've pretty much lost my faith to anything Ubisoft does. Will they even be using CryEngine2, if not why even call the game Farcry2 when it has no ties to the original title? Anyway, good thing they are leaving the mutant monkeys out this time, FarCry would had been a lot better without them.
