Too bad the team making said "We are focusing on making a top-tier PC game first and foremost. If Ubisoft wants to port it that is their bussiness but it is our bussiness to make the best PC game possible."
They will have to make sacrifices to get it to run on consoles. Be it shorter view distances, be it breaking the map up into different segments, be it changing the very nature of the game. This game pushes PC hardware to the limits, so why do consolites have it engrained into their brain that the console version will be able to run it perfectly? They may be able to do a few "tricks" to get it working, but that is just it, they are tricks, fake illusions of what is actually going to happen in the PC version. That is how Battlefield: Bad Company is getting destructible environments... They have 2 models of a section of the environment to be destroyed. When something happens to it, they quickly swap the two models. No dynamic destruction, just two static things. It is those type of liberties that will need to be taken. It will be more than acceptable but it won't be the same. As for the levels, well, they WILL have to take liberties with that. They will have to choose between segmenting the map into much smaller areas that will then have loading areas in between or have lower detail on the entire map. That is the nature of this type of game... That is if they even make the same game at all.. It still hasn't been said if they are going to keep everything the same.
I like these devs. Im glad that the Pc version is first so we dont get some consolised game.
