I must be one of the few people that actually finished Far Cry 2. It was really rewarding.

The 2 videos from FC3 are very nice.

As long as the core gameplay is the same as Far Cry 2 I'm fine with that.

yes it does, exaustive driving, annoying patrol militia, and all..

but those problems were far from being breakers. I had a lot of fun finishing it, now I'm doing for the second time on hardcore. Too bad nobody plays the multi.

Procedurally generated content almost never works. Sure, there are unlimited possibilities... but then nothing is memorable because only one person will ever experience it.

There was a mod recently released for PC that fixes pretty much all of those problems. So I may install that and give it a whirl. Really looking forward to FC3 though, the trailer got me interested.

"Procedurally generated side mission."

You mean those 3-4 pre-baked missions that occasionally pop up and give you very little reward and feel really out of place?

I even liked the Malaria. It was just a way to pick up some transportation quests, but I think it added to the detail, immersion, and urgency. Yes I'm serious.

I actually loved Far Cry 2 quite a bit. The single player's AI was incredibly annoying, but having multiple options with which to complete missions almost never made me feel the sting of repetition. The complete immersion in the world is what realy sold it for me, and I LOVED the realism features (like gun jamming and healing) that just threw me right in that world.

FC3 is already looking amazing, but if they can maintain that freedom and immersion as well as keeping the cool new cinematic approach and randomness, then I will buy 10 copies.

I dont think the AI is extremely annoying. They're fun to shoot because unlike othershooters, they're unscripted (today I replayed the post office missions 3 times and they're not the same. That's one of the beauties of FC2), their banter is funny. And one of the coolest about the AI is that they carry their wounded comrades to safety.

Yeah, I was actually rather impressed by the AI in most respects. They might be a little too accurate for their own good, though. And the number of bullets to kill an enemy was definitely off, but that says nothing about the AI itself. Add me to the Far Cry 2 fan club, despite its problems.

The AI was about half and half in impressiveness.

Half the time, I'll be flanked by a group that disappeared from my gun fire, and while I assumed they were reloading they came up to my side. They'l do things like have lengthy discussions about whats going on in the world or take the time to help injured friends (or conversely, warn against helping the injured because of how BA I am), and they'll even talk to themselves and call out for help (which often dawns a horrible realization for them that they are all alone).

The other half, they'll attack me mercilessly without provocation despite me having a killcount of around 1000 armed and dangerous mercenaries, they'll shot through walls that are clearly impossible to see me through, and they'll stand out in the open when a blazing fire is raging around them.

Still, with a little work I feel like the AI could have GTA IV levels of believablity, while still maintaining a great semi FEAR level of combat prowess.

I loved how Far Cry 2 made you feel conversely empowered and vulnerable. With each battle, you were survivng by the skin of your teeth, but the world would also react to your presence and enemies would fear you. The only other game that gives me that feeling of both empowerment and weakness is Manhunt (which I think my friends can attest to).

Far Cry 2 had its flaws, but it was a great game nonetheless. Loved it.
