Far Cry New Dawn topped the UK chart this week, but its launch week sales were a far cry (sorry) from those of its predecessors.

New Dawn's sales were just 13 per cent of Far Cry 5's opening week total. That's down massively, but to be expected - New Dawn is just a spin-off.

But even if you compare New Dawn to Far Cry 4 spin-off Primal, last week's launch sold just 25 per cent of Primal's week one total.

All of these sales figures relate to boxed copies sold and more people buy digital versions of games now than in 2016, when Primal launched (UK numbers company Chart-Track does not count download sales).

But where digital may make up some of the difference, it will not plug the huge gap seen here.

Primal was awesome. I've no idea why of all the Far Cry's it appears the least loved. My favourite one so far.

I liked FC5 but New Dawn just looks weird to me. Pink stuff everywhere wtf? The two sisters (main villains I think?) don't look threatening they just look ugly.

I'm amazed it did as well as it did.

I think they were trying to avoid the over-used brown and miserable look of most post-apocalyptic games.

Rage 2 seems to be trying to do the same thing.

Primal was my fav in the series, I hope for a sequel.

I'm gonna play it when it gets cheaper but it doesn't look as good as the previous ones.

In 2016, 26% of game sales were of physical media. I'd bet we're at less than 15% in 2019 based on that trend.

I'm surprised they hit 25% seeing as we got FC5 just 11 months ago. Ubi seems content to just compete with themselves when it comes to open world games.

I'll get it when it drops prices too many games out around that time.

It's actually a pretty fun game sure they're some cringy characters but the open world and gameplay is solid. This is one of those games people jump on the bandwagon to hate.

primal actually looked like a new game compared to 4, New Dawn looks like a DLC pack of far cry 5 not a full blown title, they know this as well, which is why its 40$

Meanwhile Metro is 50% sold more than previous games in series.

I was curious to see the story continue to see what happened to everyone since the nuke ending in FC5 was canon for this game. But really though... is it safe to inhabit the world just 17 years past a global nuclear war?

Shame to see it came second to a simple Far Cry V reskin... what the hell people?

far cry is more popular, apeal to casual gamers.

metro is nichie franchise that only apeal to hardcore gamers.
