F.E.A.R. 2.It looks and sounds better than Far Cry 2 in almost every way.gunswordfistA linear corrider shooter that *tries* to be scary, rather than an open world where you can tackle objectives in different orders? Or did the developers say, "No, FEAR 2 won't be linear?"
[QUOTE="Legendaryscmt"]You really can't compare since FEAR 2 isn't out yet.Bahaa3000Actually i'm just looking to see people's expectation of the game compared to FarCry 2
Ah, I get ya. In that case, FEAR 2. While I didn't really hate Far Cry 2, it just felt so underdeveloped.

Kind of like FEAR 1, right?Comparing apples and oranges.
As previously mentioned, FEAR 2 is going to a "traditional" linear corridor style shooter. Don't get me wrong, it looks great and I am amped to get it. But comparing it to a sandbox shooter which allows different tactics and play styles just does not make sense.
Different games, boys.

The original has better combat than Far Cry 2 does and that alone will make me prefer FEAR 2 over FC2.

I'm sorry; I was speaking for myself. I've never played a sandbox shooter before so the idea of it sounds a lot better than FEAR 2. Because the only thing I think of when I think of linear, corrider shooter is FEAR, because that's the only one I played.

They made the shotgun way too powerful, but it was satisfying blowing their heads off in slow motion. The AI was also great. After coming off of Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 (TERRIBLE AI. They were shooting at NOTHING, and the battle was already OVER.), I was impressed.

Most people "thought" Far Cry 2 sounded awesome, but then they actually played it....

Great potential ruined by a multitude of flaws.

[QUOTE="DeathScape666"]I haven't played Far Cry 2, but he said what "sounds better." An open world where I can take on things in the order I want to sounds much better, since it seems like you can choose different types of missions each time. FEAR 1 was was incredibly repetitive with no real incentive as to why you are doing this stuff. "Paxton Fettle has entered X building! Go get 'im!" "Oh, lulz, he left. Go to next bulding, do the same exact thing, and then have this message pop up again when you're done. Also, be prepared for a bunch of random sequences of Alma and other weird people trying to scare you." Also, what a crappy ending.[QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"]
What exactly is wrong with liking a linear shooter more than a "open world" shooter? Personally a game can be as on-linear as it wants and I won't care unless the combat is actually exciting and engaging. Pdiddy105

It allows for a stronger story and more streamlined gameplay experience (plus less bugs). Of course not every game should be linear and not every game should be nonlinear, but it seems this generation people are jumping on the nonlinear bandwagon. FEAR 2 looks like the overall better experience, gameplay and more. FC2 was repetitive and dull, everything was the same.
FEAR2 hopefully, im one of the few that enjoyed FC2 but I absolutely love FEAR and the expansion packs and I can't wait for FEAR2 even tho Monolith is f****** up the story that timegate managed to make with the expansions.
Oh well the shooting is bar none the best so Im excited for it.

While I did get very bored with the environment in Fear, and I actually stopped halfway through and had to come back to the game later.. I got bored even faster with Far Cry 2.Fear 2.
I am going to get a little controversial. Bioshockownz, please forgive me. But FEAR was ****ing awesome. The gunplay was amazing. The AI was (and in most cases, still is) leagues above the rest. And I will say the actual plot, no matter how badly it was presented, was quite good. Yes, it had obvious problems. But, IMO, what it did well was so fantastic that its problems can be easily overlooked.

Kind of like FEAR 1, right? FEAR was a great game, it was only good for about 1 or 2 replays but it was a great game with decent online. Please Log In to post.
