Dino Crisis
I may need to refresh my memory: Capcom set up a sequel for Dino Crisis 2, Regina was going to do something to save Dylan, Paula, and mybe even David too. She was probably going to get the help of Gailand Rick from the first game. But what they decided to do with the thrid game is set it up in the future...in space...with space dinosaurs. Not a singel one of the characters from the first two was in it. So they killed the story, and murdered the series.

THIS!!!
Dino Crisis is the correct answer here.
The fist two games were freaking phenominal. Was into them instead of the Resident Evil series at the time.
I still think #2 was a bit ahead of it's time. They really copied alot of the changes between DC1 to DC2 for RE4 which was an amazing game as well.
If they actually went back to that series roots and pretended 3 never happened I would buy it in a freaking heartbeat!
Sooo much wasted potential there!!!
Exaclty what I have always thought. Ditch 3, go back to the roots, and improve the game there and give us a story we want.I never thought of the changes in that way, cool!
It is so common sense that Capcom will never do it. Probably because they are so focused on raping the Resident Evil Series...
Yes I have brought those changes up a few times on here. The similarities are pretty astounding.
-It brought in the whole concept of purchasing and upgrading weapons.
-The very groundwork for the mercenaries gameplay is taken from DC2. That game brought in the whole combo system, where you got more points for killing enemies consecutively.
-In general the game brought the series from a slower paced survival horror game (RE3/DC1) to a fast paced action game more bent on constantly killing things (RE4/DC2).
-Even the intro's to both games are done in a similar fashion.
