FF VI, IX, or X. from the number series. I am also one of the few that LOVE Crystal Chronicles on GCN.
As for FF VII that a lot of people enjoy, I think it is WAY over rated. I feel most of the people that like it wouldn't even know what it was without the Advent Children phenomena. o_x
I like them all, but I gotta go with FF7, it was my first one, I had the best experiance with it. FF8 is also great and 10 too pwns. Not to forget FF Tactic what a game, FFTA is a shame to the Tactic name.
FFVI was BY FAR the best. Final Fantasy has gone on a steady downhill since FFVI peaked the series. FFXII was a brief respite from the continual slide into oblivion, though.
I would say that 9 is my favorite. I really liked 6 and 7. I have never been able to finish 8. I couldn't stand just about every aspect other than graphics in 8. 10 was very solid and I haven't tried 12. I don't understand how anyone could say that 8 was the best when 6,7,9,and 10 exist?
In my opinion Final Fantasy XII shouldn't have been called Final Fantasy, should have made a new IP out of it or something.

Why? B/c it was different? And if that's your reasoning is it not true that the entire FF namebrand is built on change. That's a keystone concept of the FF name.

FF is my fav series because every one is great and every one offers something new and differant, people bash 12 all the time but i thought it was great because it was alot differant. With that said my fav FF is 8
FF7. The whole franchise is beyond fantastic though (except FF12. Story was one of the best but boring side quests, lack of character developement, and battle system led to it being by far the weakest in the series).
Final Fantasy 4 and Final Fantasy 6 are my top favorites. Final Fantasy 9 would round out my top three.
Final Fantasy X is where the games started to loseme and I only really continued out of habit to be honest when it came to FFX-2 and FFXII. I tried FF11 due to being a fan of MMORPGs. However Final Fantasy 13 is going to be the first time where I'm going to not even bother with a Final Fantasy game due to it being on the PS3, same for it's spin offs. Square-Enix has to really sell me on Final Fantasy CC: The Crystal Bearers on the Wii when it gets closer to being released. The first on the Cube didn't really impress me to much so I skipped it. At least they haven't disappointed when it came to the Tactic series.

Totally agree with you man, i'm glad that FF8 is among the favorits in the thread, i've had such a hard time with my friends and in some other forums because they dont like FF8, but most of them only know FF because of Advent Children (good movie BTW) so naturally FF VII is the best for them. Dont get me wrong is an awesome game but for me is number 3, number two will be Tactics and number One the great FF8.
