Please list all your favorite first person shooters in order from favorite to least favorite. The list can be as long as you want. Up to 12, up to 69, it doesn't matter. As for me, I only own six first person shooters. Medal of Honor: Rising Sun and Call of Duty: Finest Hour both for PS2. Both are horrible and I have barely played them. Then I have Red Steel and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 for the Wii which are both painfully mediocre. Then, yesterday, on Easter, I finally got my hands on two real first person shooters for the PC: FEAR and FEAR: Extraction Point. I am kind of disappointed with FEAR so far, but I am hoping it gets better as I move along.

Also, for the poll, don't say, "You should've replaced Halo 3 with Perfect Dark" or something. I just chose some of the more popular ones. That's all.

What say you?

Call of Duty 4. But why is Doom not on this list? I would have chosen that.

I'm guessing 75 percent of votes are going to be in the "Other" section.

My favourite would be Goldeneye, followed by COD4, but this is the best level EVER in a FPS

Because old first person shooters age horribly and most people that say these crappy first person shooters from 1998 are awesome just suffer from a horrible case of nostalgia. I've played Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, TimeSplitters 2, and a bunch of other games, and while I didn't enjoy any of them all that much, I can easily say that they kick the living crap out of Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark. They were amazing back in the day, but they absolutely suck now.

3D platformers and fighters seem to hold up a lot better. Oh, and all Zelda games.

Here's hoping there's a sequel.

The original Half-Life will always reign supreme.

Also, sorry to break it to you, but F.E.A.R. isn't that great. The battles are, quite literally, the same deal every single time. Your shotgun becomes your best friend when paired with slow motion, and using anything else is inconvenient when the shotgun produces one-hit kills for the most part.

System Shock 2>Bioshock

Personally id say Halo Combat Evolved is my all time favorite because of the amount of fun i had with lan parties and coop on that game. Too many great memories for that game not to be my favorite.

The only reason Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark haven't aged well is in part due to the single-analog stick control scheme.

and the single player campaign in goldeneye was meh and boring. Level design wise it was terrible as well by todays standards. Gameplay would be slower.

THe thing is the FPS genre ages alot. Few FPS games hold up to the future great games.

A game like Timesplitters(which is a throwback to the goldeneye and perfect dark games) is a great example of just a good FPS by todays standards being completely suprior to the 64 shooters.

Battlefield 1942. I've probably spent more time on BF2 (or perhaps not) but BF1942 was off da walls and chains, it was like outside climbing on the roof and snapping chains off.

THe single player in PD was good. GOldeneye r u kidding me?

Atleast TS was funny. Im not saying goldeneye and pd weren't good back in the day, but they suck now and thats really not there fault, its the genre. FPS genre evolves at a faster rate, and most of the devs end up copying each other, or breaking the allready set standard.

I mean yeah recently nothing truly special has been done, but give it a few more years and we will have the next big console shooter and the next amazing PC shooter.

Yeah, exactly. I understand that, at the time, Perfect Dark and Goldeneye 007 were freaking amazing, but the only reason anyone would consider either of these two games the best first person shooter of all time is from nostalgia. Like he said, first person shooters don't age too well.

You asked what was our favorite first person shooter, not what was the best. You're right saying it's nostalgia, and yes, they were amazing back in the day. And that's exactly how people remember them; Amazing. I'm well aware that current games far out do Goldeneye, but I remember it as an amazing experience and no FPS since then, even being superior games, have given me that same feeling. Which is why I choose Goldeneye over any modern, superior games.

The original Halo was a pretty exceptional game, to be honest, despite what its sequels might have you believe. Sure, it had some repetitive sections, but the AI was (and to an extent, still is) top-notch, the vehicle sections were fantastic (and your teammate AI was capable of, you know, manning the ****ing turret, unlike in Halo 3), and it didn't have this "epic" story fall flat on its face.

Planetside. I don't play anymore since SOE ruined it, but back in the day it couldn't be beat for sheer action. Rushing toward a base fighting tanks, aircraft, buggies, and hundreds (up to 999 players on one continent) of players in the melee. It is the closest thing to virtual war that I've experienced.

I just recently started playing The Orange Box, and I'm extremely impressed with Half-Life 2. In fact, the only "complaint" I might have is that the suspense and action are non-stop--you don't really get to take too many breaks.
