Aside from all the best of the year awards, what was your favorite game of this year? Mines would have to be Fallout 3. I dont even own the game but when i play it at my friends i never wanna leave the place. Its so addicting and fun.
MGS4, followed by LBP, but Fallout 3 is fastly catching up to LBP, just in a different way. I'm holding back on my first playthrough. My skills/stats are kinda a mess. But my next character is going to be a professional killer :D so yeah. Fallout 3 is the only game, ever, to keep me awake/intrigued for 30 hours+. I stayed up all day yesterday (something like 38-40 hours) playing fallout 3. I couldn't get enough of it, and i'm still only level 10. The sheer amount of things to do is just amazing. There are a few hiccups, and things I don't really like, but all in all, it's quite an amazing game. I'd imagine this is how a lot of people felt about Oblivion, I never got oblivion, so I decided I should go with Fallout 3, and got it for christmas. I am quite happy with that choice :D
It was Mirror's Edge until Both IIDX StyIe 15 DJ Troopers and DJ MAX Emotional Sense: Black Square were released (19th and 29th of December, respectively). So as soon as I get to play them (still waiting for them to ship), I will be able to determine the best games of the year of 2008. My guess is that Black Square and IIDX will beat out Mirror's Edge.

If it was the fact that, as Yahtzee said, it's a kinda like an MMORPG without the multiplayer, then, no, you won't like it, as that was unchanged. But if your problem was with, say, the voice acting and bugs, then you will probably enjoy it, or, at least, enjoy it more than the unenhanced version.

gta 4. people say it's boring and there are not many things to do when you finish the story. but i find it really fun. besides, the other gta's don't have many things to do after you have finished the story either. the taxi and vigilante missions get repetitive and boring after a while. the new vigilante missions in gta 4 are way better than in the other gta games. the increased realism of the game is also a step in the right direction.
It was L4D, but I'm switching it to Mass Effect(PC). At first playthrough I was kinda dissapointed, I had huge expectations and I was expecting a new Kotor with the uber-graphics seen in the bullshots. Instead I got a shallow action-RPG with some ugly filters thrown on top to cover the last gen graphics. But now that I'm replaying knowing what it is I'm liking it a lot more. Plus this time around I left the filter on so the ugly textures and lack of detail don't bother me anymore either. :P Looks quite beautiful once you get used to the effect.
My personal favorite game for this year was Grand Theft Auto IV though there were many others game that could of been my favorite if it wasn't for GTA IV. I love the new additions that they did with this game with better physics mechanic for driving, better cover system, and of course the better targetting system. Even the thing I dislike from the last game was taken out in this one.
