Female Character Design: Has This Ever Offended You?

Uhm.. So, video games are great because it has hot chicks. We masturbate to them daily. But has there ever been a female character design that you found "offensive" or "too much"

I know. What a ridiculous question, but I'm curious. Me? Never. That Sorceress chick from Dragon's Crown turned quite a few heads. There was so much Rule34 stuff out before the game even released.L

I'm only offended because when I see character design like this, I know the developer thinks of gamers as basement dwellers or 13 year old boys. I am neither.

If a dev wants to make boobs then that's their choice alone as the artist. I won't let it stand in my way of playing any good games.

But with that said I never found Ivy from Soul Calibur to be sexy. She's hideous.

Like others above me have said, I don't get offended by anything in video-games. It's the same with stand-up comedy for me, I'm not gonna get offended at a guy/girl making a white joke even though I am white, it's all just fun. If you do get offended, to me that's being kinda a pussy honestly.

I personally love the way Japanese developers design women both respectfully and also just friggin' sexy.

Honestly, I always found Ivy attractive to a degree, but her white/purple-ish hair always put me off.

My preference is Kasumi, Ayane, the old style Lara Croft(not the early in game models lol the box art etc), Jill Valentine, and Sophita or Cassandra from Sould Calibur

I have no issues with extravagant looking ladies in video games. I believe that diversity is key, a bit of everything. But Japanese games, in particular the most anime inspired ones really push it too far. It goes from diversity to have none of it because they all are the same. A bunch of pixel deliberately put together to provoke arousal or just draw the attention from men. And again, my problem is diversity, the lack of it.

I like stories that no matter how over the top and fantastical they are (aka MGS) they try to make it believable enough within the boundaries set by the initial premise of the game. Although I most admit, designs like Milla Maxwell from Tales of Xillia really bothers me. Because her attitude and style of combat really doesn't mix well with how she looks. It's like her appearance and personality belong to 2 totally different persons.

But let's create a contrast.

You know, I get what they did with reboot Lara. Try to build more character, so she has to look less videogame-y. I don't mind too much, but like you said, old school Lara is WOMAN ALL THE WAY.

"slutty" is besides the point. These female characters are clearly designed as sexy eye-candy for straight males. Why should we be "offended" by something that we find appealing?

No girl finds that kind of overly chunky fat-beef shit attractive in a man. They want soccer ripped builds.

Character design should fit the dev's artistic style and that's that. I think that making overly sexualized characters to drive sales is not a good thing... the artistic design should be the most creative one, where the studio thinks lie the game's identity, even if it means appealing less to some more perverted niches, thus eventually losing some sales.
