Female gamers are few and far between. You know it's true.

I'm talking about console gaming.  Funny how Every time I see a forum topic talking about female gamers (not many topics I might add), it seems like guys are the only ones coming in defending this and saying stuff like "My girlfriend plays Halo" or whatever.  Then, OCCASSIONALLY, I will see a stray post from a female gamer that says something like "I like male-oriented games and I'm a female".   Then I read 100 other posts on the topic from guys. 

If there are SOOO MANY FEMALE GAMERS, how come I NEVER see them in GameStop buying a game, or hardly ever read anything from them in these forums?? 

I've heard that women make up 40% of the market.  I find that hard as heck to believe.  How could anyone arrive at 40%? 

I'm sure someone will come in and say "My girlfriend plays Halo! You are owned!"  Yeah, and I'm sure the 10 other girlfriends she has play videogames to...

Time to face the facts.  Forget the 40% figures you've heard.  Female gamers are in the vast minority and could care less about console gaming.  How many of you guys' moms have come in and rolled their eyes in disgust while playing a game?  All my mom has ever said about videogames is "thank God they invented the pause button".  

Ever see a female play a game demo at Best Buy, Walmart, GameSpot, anywhere??  Ever see a female (other than a mom bringing her son) in GameStop, Game Crazy, anywhere?

I also hear this a lot...."Wii is being bought by females more than any other console in history".  REALLY??  Funny how when I waited all night to get my Wii at Best Buy, there WAS NOT ONE FEMALE TO BE SEEN! 

Console gaming is primarily a male hobby that females have no interest in.  Sure, there is always the exception to the rule...but the rule is that males provide the massive videogame audience, and female console gamers are barely a blip on the map.  

i stoped reading at the why dont they post part. i dont think EA or any dev means hardcore gamers that are females. they mean casual females. thats a huge market u can tap. if u make something that can spark an interest in that market, then boom big sales, big money.

What they don't tell you is that is all forms of all electronic gaming. Console games make up a very small % of that.

oh and females didnt wait for the wii cause they were casuals. hardcores generally camp out for a launch system. as for women, they have flocked towards the wii after seeing it being played. besided does ur town equal the rest of the world no. I live in NY probably a bigger market than yours unless you live in florida or california, but you dont see me making claims based on just my area.

Yeah, and 99.9% of statistics are embellishments or flat out lies...There is no way that 38% of gamers are females.  And even if this is true, that number is definitely much, much lower when talking about ONLY CONSOLE GAMING.  38% based on what?  Games that come preloaded on the PC like Solitaire, Minesweeper?  That number seems really high.

I'd say gamers with a normal form of taste and decent standards are ever more rare than female gamers.

Maybe females see this industry for the worthless marketing mechanism it has become?

I knew that stat was way too high. And my eyes are killing me, so I can see why I read that wrong..oh well.  

I'm one of those people who think that girls aren't gamers.Yes,I know there are some,and this is pretty dumb thinking,but I'm just sticking with it.

My girlfriend plays Gears and Halo with me. But she doesn't post on forums. Why? because she's not as into games as I am. Which is probably the case for many many girls. They just arn't into them AS MUCH as guys.

You can find them a lot of places in college. Tons of girls have DS's its just a matter of getting them alone and having them try out some new things that they might think are fun. But how often are you going to show a girl a video game when its just her and you in the room. Heh not many. 

Well first off, just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it's not happening.

As far as my girl friends are concenered, most of them actually play games...on DS. I know very few  that play fully-fledged console games though. I love living in an asian city.:D
