FF15 becomes the fastest-selling FF game to date! 5million in 1 day!

I'm not going to hate on it as you say, but the commercial calls it an action adventure game. Did I miss something? I thought FF were RPGs. No thanks for now.

ANd as soon as they start playing, it will be back on shelves but oh well, at least SE made their money.

It's a decent release... It's not the most polished game, by any means, but it keeps me coming back.

Mafia III shipped 5 million also, then it was heavily discounted to help sell those 5 million copies. Hopefully FF15 doesnt share the same fate.

The game needs to sell 10 million to succeed, lets hope it can make it there.

I'm about 4 hours in, now. It's actually a fun game and the level of customization is really something. The girlfriend is rubbing it in that she was right about this game and I was wrong.

Good to see that the game is doing well. I would love to say that final fantasy was back, but I never thought the series was off. I'm one of the rare ones that actually liked FF XIII-2 and Lighting Returns.

This is down to marketing, I see FFXV ads slapped across practically every bus and bus stop in the UK.

I'm going to wait for a price drop to play it, but what I see so far I like.

I'm still on the fence about picking up this game. With Dead Rising coming next week though I think I'll hold out and wait.

It's an rpg but i guess it's easier to seek actual adventure games than rpgs to the casual costumers.

I'm more interested in seeing what the players think when they've played through it and what the consensus is on whether it was worth it in the end.

Good, this game was crazy expensive, that includes the anime and movie as well.

Square Enix as a company already got their money..5 million units worth because there is no such thing as shipping for free, as soon as company ships an item they already charged for it and got their money as simple as amazon how they charge money as soon as an item is shipped. its too early to know how many people bought the game (which im sure is over 4 mil) this game has major hype!

Yeah, after the reception XIII got on day one, and then the ensuing fan reaction afterwards I'm shocked anyone actually believes these mainstream reviews. The true test of this game will be general consensus a few months after all the hype is gone.

bought world of final fantasy on day one and played it for almost 3 weeks none stop till i almost completely cleared the entire game (till true ending was unlocked) easily one of the best RPG this year (since i havent played FF15 yet).

This is true. Square Enix has been paid. Of course Square needs to sell more than 5 million due to how much the game cost them to make. The director stated they needed to sell 10 million. So the true test will be whether stores order more shipments or whether they start to discount the game to replace it with a better selling game.

I'm waiting on it. I've only ever played and enjoyed 7 and 10. I played 8 and 13 and got board quickly. We'll see on this one.

I've never played FF7 either thats why im also hyped for FF7 Remake.

@finalstar2007: I liked 10 but not enough to rebuy. FF7, I only got to the end of disc 1 as I got lost on the world map and then moved on. Looking forward to FF7 Remake as well.

I'd hope it was the fastest selling game after all the advertising and money they invested in this.

Gameplay is better than the Witcher, story not so much.

To be fair, it depends what you mean by "RPG". It's a little dangerous to be too restrictive with definitions, especially in the case of Final Fantasy. I mean, when you say "RPG" are you talking about turn-based battling (something that Square Enix has heavily toyed with since at least Final Fantasy XII)? Are you talking character development or customisation? Are you talking deep story? Game length? What?

So far I'm about 3 hours into Final Fantasy XV, and it very much feels like Final Fantasy even though it's gone open world. The battle system, even at this early stage, is awesome. I mean, really addictive and plenty strategic.

It's too early to make any judgements on story, but I don't hold Final Fantasy particularly high in that regard - for me, Final Fantasy stories have always been hit and miss. I liked the stories of VII, VIII, IX and XII. But I thought X and XIII were fairly poor in this area (especially XIII, which had a pretty farcical plot in my opinion).

So my overall message is not to let strict genre convention definitions limit you from experiencing new things. If you do, you'll just potentially be missing out on lots of cool stuff. :-)

If there is one series that deserves to sell well it's FF... glad to see it back on top as JRPG king

You constantly prove that you are clueless. 10 million was the goal, but not what is needed to recoup their investment or even make a profit. There is a difference between those two things.

No he did not. Someone was spouting the same misinformation elsewhere yesterday and was corrected. Success and recouping the investment is not the same thing. They may want to make $200 million in profit(just a wild number) and/or hit the 10 million mark as status symbol. FFXV has not actually been in full production for 10 years. People have the same misconception with the The Last Guardian.

Tomb Raider "needed" 6 million because they were counting on TR2013 and Hitman Absolution to make up for their other projects that failed. Simply recouping your investment is hardly ever going to be seen as a success. There needs to be a decent amount of profit to justify that investment. The same way a movie simply breaking even will not be seen as a success.

"We believe there was a communication problem during the conference," the company said. "In fact, Tabata was referencing 10 million copies only as a high goal which the development team set to realize their ambition to make the ultimate Final Fantasy game. And the comment was never meant to be referred as a recoup line of the investment."
