Dengeki has interviewed Tetsuya Nomura on the future of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy XIII and he's revealed some more information on the development of the games.

Nomura says that with the help of the disc space on Blu-Ray and the Hard drive in each PS3, The evolution of Final Fantasy XII to XIII will be as big as the evolution of Final Fantasy VI to VII. He also says that Final Fantasy XIII will probably be the first game to use the full specifications of the Playstation 3. Another interesting thing he mentioned was that the airship present in Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be able to take part in airborne assaults over the world map. Hopefully we'll see that in action soon. Finally, Dengeki also asked him once again whether the games will be Playstation 3 exclusives which he replied to with "Of course".

Reports from N4G and Siliconera are saying that at the recent Square Enix fiscal meeting Square Enix said that development of the engine has become stagnant. This is not true, but a mistranslation. Google Translator mistranslates it as well, likely the source of their translation.

In the report on the fiscal meeting by impress.co.jp they speak of recent earnings from, and sales of, recent Square Enix games and only mention the white engine momentarily in the report. There is no further word on Final Fantasy XIII or development of the engine outside stating that development is NOT stagnant. This obviously means development of the white engine is still ongoing and going smoothly. It is likely of no worry that the engine is still being worked on as improvements to most game engines are continuous up to their games' completion.

Futhermore, it was earlier stated development has been smooth in other reports.

This is BS, there was a evolution between VI and VII because it made the jump from 2D to 3D. There isn't going to be any kind of evolution, just prettier 3D graphics. If FF13 was on the Wii I might believe that there would be some sort of evolution. There is nothing they couldn't of done last gen besides graphics.

FFXIII will probably be the only good jrpg coming out.

It still amazes me that anyone outside of Japan plays these games tbh. Maybe it's just me as others seems to find depth where I only find shallow, repetative and boring gameplay/story.Stonin

It's just you. The main games are amazing. Even when they don't do good (FF12) they are still better than most Rpgs.

I think you may be fanboy here because you could say the same about Bungie even though they are indepenedent now the are most likely still going to stick to the box, also squarenix is making games for other consoles.

If FF7 is like FF9 and Chrono Cross, then FF7 was 2D. The only 3D objects were the characters, but most of the world was 2D backgrounds.

If FFXII gets more delayed the PS3 is screwed. Next thing u know MGS4 goes multi-platform, and Sony finally losses the war.bigevil_rashek
