Theyve been selling this game for under $39.99 for almost a month. Must have under-preformed. Have to wise it the best.

Im wondering how many digital copies they shipped? 2 million?

It's pretty terrible when a rush job game like this that's had half it's content cut and has a terrible nonsensical plot is able to gain this much in shipments. This game has some serious flaws, everything down to it's

- cut content(practically everything in the trailers was cut and the few major scenes the game had where spoilt),

- it's extremely poor camera system that is some how worse off than Kingdom Hearts,

- it's on-rails boring car exploration that has you waiting 5-8 minutes for a single journey

- it's boring open world that offers nothing but samey looking areas and about 3 different colors, filled with gas stations, only 1 town. Previous FFs where just so much bigger than this in terms of diversity and scope. No chests, interesting loot, just respawnable glowy things on the ground in most cases are just merchant junk.

- over 100 korean mmo style fetch quests,

- it's incredibly easy and shallow combat system that just has you spamming healing items and holding down a button(Yes I beat the lv120 super boss this way)

- the glitchiest and most boring super boss in existence Admantoise

- plot that offers next to no explanation on character motives with serious events such has character injuries and deaths happening off screen that they've most like reserved for season pass DLC.(unforgivable)

Honestly people, this game was way worse than Final Fantasy XIII which offered a more complete polished experience. This game should not be the flag ship title for the FF franchise and should not be speaking for JRPGs at all. Thankfully though, this is 6 million shipped not sold.

This.

Compare it to The Witcher 3 and FFXV is amateur hour. FFXV is no where near finished. Its just as bad as FFXIII.

I am so happy to reveal I am not a buyer of this game. I played the demo and did not care for it. I respect those involved with making the game, for releasing a demo. It gave some of us the chance to decide, whether it was for us or not. To me, that is TO ME, SUBJECTIVE, no insult intended, it was garbageshittrashcrap.

I can't wait to get back into this game from the beginning. I played it a few hours, but got overloaded from my backlog I could never get invested. I can already tell I'll like the combat. But it takes some getting used to.

They said they need 10 million to break even. The game is not doing well. No chance of getting there or even breaking even.

No, they never said that. It was just mistranslated.

With 6 million copies, FFXV has grossed $470 million revenue and $260 million profit:

Final Fantasy XV on track to gross $600m, will reverse series decline

They've already gone well beyond break-even point.

Thats impossible aint it? 6 million times $60 is 360 million. Lets give them $50 since on sale for $39.99 for so long and special editions. If they ship 6 million thats...,

  • 300 million
  • -36m (12% No Sale)=
  • 264m
  • -53m (20% Retailer)
  • -53m (20% Console Maker)
  • -21m (7% Distribution)
  • = 137 million

Now we still got publisher, developer, development cost, and marketing. Since this is AAA game, lets go low and guess 80 million since current gen and the times. Times 2 for marketing, so 80 million. This would mean Square lost maybe 23 million.

Lets be nice and say it cost 60 million to develop and 60 million for marketing. That means they made 17 million in profit. Im gonna take a wild guess and say FF15 has to sell more that 6 million to succeed. My guess is around 10-12 million. Of course this is just guessing, i really have no clue.

There are other things to consider too. Like PC costing less and maybe a platform under preforming.

And we can guesstimate that around 80% of sales are on PS4. SE shouldn't have even bothered bringing the game to Xbox One.

That's only taking into account US prices. You need to look at worldwide prices to get a clearer picture:

  • US - $59.99 standard, $89.99 deluxe, $39.99 price cut
  • Japan - Â¥9500 ($90) standard, Â¥13,997 ($120) deluxe, Â¥6650 ($60) price cut
  • UK - £54.99 ($70) standard, £69.99 ($90) deluxe, £34.99 ($45) price cut

Not sure about the EU price, but I would assume it's somewhat close to the UK price. If we took the average price between the US, Japan and UK as being representative of the average worldwide price, it would look like this:

  • $73 standard, $100 deluxe, $48 price cut

Assuming the breakdown of the sales was 50% price cut, 40% standard, and 10% deluxe, we're looking at an average worldwide price (between versions and regions) of about $63. That would work out to a worldwide revenue of about $378 million. Assuming Square Enix took 55% of the cut, that works out to $207 million income. Assuming the production and marketing budget was $150 million, that works out to a profit of $57 million. While this is an estimate, and the profit margin varies, what is certain is that Square Enix has gone beyond break-even point and made a profit with FFXV.

Thats true, but due to price cut so quick and so long, one must worry about the No Sale. 380 million minus a 12% no sale, which is a fair percent, that cuts 45 million. Now we have 333 million. This leaves them a 182 million cut and brings them to 32 million. Its a tight rope to walk at both the $57m and $32m. Id still guess above 6 million sold to be safe.

Unless of course the cost are under, which im sure might be. But i feel when Nintendo says Zelda has to sell 2 million to break even, FF15 is more than double.

Wonder what the console split was. I'm thinking 95 : 5.
